AIBU?
To think she shouldn't be doing this to traffic? just because she's having a gara
dottypotter · 09/10/2022 17:35
Couldn't believe it. Driving along the road, see woman holding up a sign to the traffic.
It was a home made sign, bit of cardboard with words written on in biro.
Obvs it was to attract attention so obvs it attracts attention you wonder what is says?
Extremely dangerous in traffic could have caused an accident as drivers tried to read it losing concentration.
The sign was to let you know they was having a toy sale on her driveway.
What was she doing holding that up to traffic and endangering life just to tell ppl she is selling some old stuff?
Am I being unreasonable?

If you can’t deal with that then you shouldn’t be driving
Whataretheodds · 09/10/2022 17:40
Unless she was actually in the road i don't see an issue.

Holding a board up to traffic on a main road no way.
Safer ways to advertise. Human nature will be to look.
Hotandbothereds · 09/10/2022 17:41
Being able to read a sign and drive at the same time is a standard part of driving, if it was distracting you OP are you really a competent driver?
Rtmhwales · 09/10/2022 17:43
Don't you have to read signs to know there's construction or where to go in unfamiliar areas?

You had to strain to see it, it wasn't a bold sign, something home made she had done, cardboard and biro.
With has it got to do with a road full of traffic because she wants to sell her old tat.
Your first thought was it must be something important to stand there roadside like that.
You'd change your mind if someone went into your car trying to read it.

Reading a sign written in biro certainly isn’t a standard part of driving, it’s an accident waiting to happen.

I only clicked this thread to find out what a gara is.
It was meant to sale garage sale but obviously it didn't come out right.
Bit like dish and chips.

Surely the standard response is to at-a-glance see it’s homemade and therefore probably irrelevant to your life, filter it out and keep driving! Poor woman is probably desperate to make ends meet if she’s doing that and doesn’t even have a marker pen to write with.
Estate agents have property listings in size 12 fonts in their windows by the road. Corner shops have handwritten notices in windows by the road. People hold up Big Issues by the road. You’re not obliged to read them while you’re in control of a vehicle.
dottypotter · 09/10/2022 17:59
We don't know she couldn't afford a marker pen probably just didn't think.
That's not the point though.
There are ways to advertise your selling stuff not standing there.
Shop windows are different.
When you see a woman standing roadside with a sign you think she's in some sort of trouble or protesting not advertising she's got some bloody toys for sale. How many people are interested?
How do they stop, park, and go and have a look too. If they are in the car they are most likely on the way somewhere .
