AIBU?
AIBU ago ask for ideas for Xmas presents for a 12 year old
Hangingandneedsleep · 09/10/2022 12:55
I know I am… but I want to get organised early this year as I’m always madly rushing around on Christmas Eve. So… I was just wondering if the Mumsnet crowd could give me some ideas… big presents AND small presents. So far, I am considering some hair straighteners OR a Velvetiser for her main present and some make up for a smaller one but open to any other ideas you wise ones have . Thank you in advance.
Am I being unreasonable?

Have a look on the Christmas board- lots of threads there that might be useful. What does she enjoy? DD at that age had straighteners but didn’t use them much. Velvetiser is good but a bit gimmicky. AirPods? Art stuff if she is into that. Trainers or DMs?

Come to the Christmas board, we can help you!
My 11yo is getting tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as a main gift, along with some smaller things: a water speaker, a neon message frame, a bullet journal, dual tip graphic marker pens and a new swimming towel. Will also get books and probably a few extra bits.
Hangingandneedsleep · 09/10/2022 13:10
Thank you! She ain’t getting all of that! I’m just not confident in the ideas I had. Like the PP said, I think the Velvetiser is a bit gimicky.

@Stompythedinosaur Ooooh I like !! Some fab ideas there! Thank you.
ChocolateSpreadOnToast · 09/10/2022 13:15
Have you asked her what she wants? Or does she not know! Mine always write a list.
hesbeingabitofadick · 09/10/2022 13:32
Ask her.
If you were my mum, you'd need to keep lots of receipts.
Stompythedinosaur · 09/10/2022 14:46
I guess DC are all different - mine will occasionally ask for a specific thing, but they most often want "surprises".
I am sure the op will choose nice things her dd with like, just because she hasn't asked for it doesn't mean they will end up returning it. That's a bit unkind to say.
Hangingandneedsleep · 09/10/2022 15:03
Thank you @Stompythedinosaur That’s exactly it - she likes surprises. It’s worked out in the past but I’m worried now she’s getting older. I have asked her to give me some ideas (oh ye mumsnetters of little faith) and as expected, she said surprise me like Santa always did 🤣 She did however also say she wanted some eye shadow … so that’s one clue …

My 11 nearly 12 DD is getting a giant Pokémon squishmellow, posca pens, a kindle, a new swimming towel, Lego mandolorian helmet, some body shop skincare products, and stocking bits.

This is DDs Birthday and Christmas list (to go round whole family):
Minecraft for Nintendo switch
Toe socks
Bluetooth speaker
Clay bead kit
Little bear glasses
Smiley face slippers
Stickers
Lilo and stitch blanket
Before I saw the list I have got her:
Demagorgan cuddly toy
Clueless false nails
Stars and moon projector light
Really nice woolly tracksuit bottoms, vest and cardi with Stitch on, Primark but set was £40, which is quite a lot from there but I think she will love it.

My 12 year old has made me a list for family. It includes:
converse
wireless headphones
cargo pants
body spray
Fluffy blanket
zip up hoodie
clear lip gloss
mascara
Hopefully this will help

Our 11 year old (12 by Christmas) is wanting an Oodie, new fluffy slippers and clothes.m that's all that is on her list so far.
She's just started high school so is doing a lot of work on my laptop at the moment. We're considering getting her a Chromebook as her main present.
Probably pad out with body spray, face masks etc etc
