To think this is the stupidest thing I've ever read?

Birbeck University careers service states this on it's web site:

Birkbeck Futures will not hold relationships of any kind with oil, gas or mining companies as part of our commitment to increased sustainability and addressing the climate crisis. This includes, but is not limited to, attendance at careers fairs and other recruitment opportunities, posting role vacancies, sponsorships and advertising.

How do they think that we make electric cars, wind turbines, solar panels etc etc if we don't mine the resources needed to make them? Where do they think that lithium for car batteries actually comes from?

I despair that a university is this stupid.

I also really resent the way universties are more interested in claiming the moral highground and being 'woke' than actually encouraging critical thinking in their students. Their role isn't to tell students 'You must think this and hold this opinion' It is to get them to explore issues themselves and reach their own conclusions, even if they have opinions not everyone will agree with.

I don’t understand the logic at all.

The Oil, gas and mining companies will be at the centre of moving to a more sustainable future.

The oil companies won’t just ignore the issue then close their doors. Surely what these companies need are more people, of differing ages, education, back ground etc to help move forward.

How does, trying to put off recent graduates from speaking to these companies help anything?
