AIBU?
To say humans are the worst species ever
itsasadworldneverforget · 06/10/2022 19:01
Today I was "lucky" enough to have the opportunity to visit Auschwitz (two of the camps).
Sometimes, the human race are a disgrace.
The loss of human life, the barbaric evil treatment of others deemed "different".
It's shocking and not that long ago.
I wish every person in the world could learn by it and accept all others.

So true @itsasadworldneverforget
It's a sad and intolerant world we live in. It's one big planet that we all share but it seems nothing stops mans inhumanity to man.

So very true

I think this most days tbh. The human race is increasingly awful.
ThisShipIsSinking · 06/10/2022 20:26
Without a doubt, planet Earth would be much better off without humans.
HeddaGarbled · 06/10/2022 20:29
It’s an interesting question because I also thing that human’s act in compassionate ways that other species don’t (caring for the old & disabled, sharing resources, for example).
I suppose, with civilisation, comes the capacity for compassion, but also for cruelty.
MrsTerryPratchett · 06/10/2022 20:35
The worst. And the best. It's our nature to be both.
tuttifruit · 06/10/2022 20:46
Both the worst and the best. We leave the biggest mark because we have the most power
PortiasBiscuit · 06/10/2022 20:48
All species have the potential to be awful, we are the only species who are self aware enough to realise it.

Agreed .
Some days I question if it'd actually be a bad thing if we died out . Like the dinosaurs
itsasadworldneverforget · 06/10/2022 20:50
Those saying were the best and worst, you are correct.
I suppose just seeing the enormity of the holocaust was so shocking and so totally unnecessary.
But we mustn't lose faith in the good, thank you for the grounding.

If you think we're "increasingly awful", a quick look through the history books will blow your mind!
Oliveandbay · 06/10/2022 21:41
True. The news coming out of Thailand today is just horrific.
gamerchick · 06/10/2022 21:44
Yep.
I wouldn't worry, the planet will take care of us at some point. Like a flea treatment.
Or we'll wipe each other out. Either way....

'When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'
Fred Rogers
All the incredible stories of bravery, selflessness and kindness which also came out of that hellish time. We shouldn't forget the terrible but if it leaves us with only fear, the correct reaction is defence and that is a vicious circle.
Look at Iran right now. You can focus on the evil treatment of the women or the incredible bravery and resistance of the women. Both are true and human.
