To think an online grocery delivery should wait until the booked time?

Ordered a shop for 4-5pm (only slot available), got home at 3.56 to see the Sainsbury's van driving off... No phone call, no card through door, no attempt to redeliver. We order every week and have never not been in to take delivery. Customer service are useless and can't even tell me where the shop has gone.

I use Ocado ad they ring to check if it's convenient to come early

Dirtylittleroses · 06/10/2022 18:40

Agree I also use Ocado, mostly they check if it’s convenient sometimes they just turn up. Maybe the guys clock was different as 4 mins is minimal/

User135792468 · 06/10/2022 18:43

Tesco also tend to call if early. The customer service is also quite on the ball if I’ve ever had an issue.

gerbo · 06/10/2022 18:46

That's poor and unacceptable, but I've used sainsburys for deliveries for 15+years and this hasn't happened to me. Hopefully a one off? They've always been wonderful for us: when I forgot to amend an order slot reserved with champagne and needed to cancel last minute, when I sent it accidentally to my mother in law, all through lockdown....
Sorry this happened though, rubbish. Chase customer service!

Seeline · 06/10/2022 18:48

I've had Sainsbury's deliver early, but the delivery driver has always rung in advance to check whether I was ok with it.

CheezePleeze · 06/10/2022 18:50

Morrisons always ring in advance if they want to deliver early.

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 06/10/2022 18:50

Morrisons call me if they’re going be early, but I always make sure to be home at least 10-15 minutes before my slot just in case. Route planning isn’t an exact science. But in your case, as you weren’t in yet, they definitely should have waited until at least a few minutes after the start of the slot.

ScarletWitchM · 06/10/2022 18:52

I had to stop using Tesco and Asda because of this. Tesco was the worst though - 3 times I had delivery booked for 6-7 - so when I was back home from work and 3 times they came in the middle of the day and then just didn’t deliver. I only know because my nosey neighbour told me they had come and knocked. I use Ocado now and they sometime come a bit early but usually call and I get a notification when they are on the way

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 06/10/2022 18:52

Sainsburys have always waited until the order slot for me (I’ve sometimes driven past them waiting at the end of my road) or called to see if they can deliver early. Hopefully it’s a one off but still very annoying for you!

genuinelyaskingforafriend · 06/10/2022 19:00

Our Tesco delivery turned up about 20 minutes early recently. I missed it as I was on my way home from work to receive it.

However, they left it with my son but he didn't know whether or not I wanted the numerous substitutions, so just took them all. I ended up with quite a few things I didn't want.

If it happens again I will phone through and ask for a refund for the things I don't want!

Tigofigo · 06/10/2022 19:16

The driver claimed he tried to deliver at 4.10pm and called several times when no one answered. Zero missed calls. Gaslighting much?

YANBU this happened to me once, thankfully we were in but if I’d wanted a loud delivery van outside during baby’s nap time I would have asked for one!

SummerInSun · 06/10/2022 19:24

Ocado always call and ask if an early delivery is convenient. If not, they come back in the slot.

shouldbesleepingnotscrolling · 06/10/2022 19:25

This annoys me too, several times Ive booked a delivery for 8-9pm so both kids should be asleep and they’ve either called or just turned up half an hour early….just as the kids are going to sleep. Even a phone call is annoying because although you can say no, it’s obviously inconvenient for the drivers so i feel like I should say its fine.

BettyOBarley · 06/10/2022 19:29

That's really annoying, especially the driver lying about it!
Put Asda delivery turned up a whole hour early the other week. Luckily we were in cos I'm sure he wasn't going to sit outside for an hour.

Craftybodger · 06/10/2022 20:08

Ocado sometimes deliver early. I was told recently that they can deliver up to an hour early, but only after a phone call to ask if it’s convenient.

Yeah I had them turn up half hour early and they said the same about could come an hour early… didn’t help that the delivery drivers gently tap on the door window and don’t use the knocker either so almost missed it

Thing is, Sainsbury can check the vehicle's data which tells them exactly where it was and at what time amongst other things. They'll go by that.

Same here.

They never ring when early in our area.

Part of the reason I stopped shopping with them.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 06/10/2022 21:09

I've used Sainbury's for years. They've delivered early a few times and always called beforehand to ensure it's OK.

A PP had a good point - aren't the vehicles tracked so they will know where it was at 4.10 and that it wasn't at your house?

Blowyourowntrumpet · 06/10/2022 21:11

This is NOT gaslighting

Wrong thread?

cushioncovers · 06/10/2022 21:16

Op suggested the delivery man was trying to gas light her but I think he was just lying rather than gaslighting
