To think fashion these days is flipping weird..

Balenciaga's Paris fashion show. The runway was a literal mud pit, complete with water to ensure maximum slop and mess. The models bustling along said slop and mess look like post apocalyptic villains. See tiktok video below.

It doesn't surprise me to read that Kanye West opened the set, after seeing what he did for his Donda show. Its all very similar. Dark and a bit disturbing.

AIBU to think fashion these days is flipping weird?

Catwalk shows have always been weird and wonderful though, it's more about art and creativity and getting the best reviews than actual fashion.

threecupsofteaminimum · 03/10/2022 09:56

YANBU

i just think they've run out of ideas and it's an 'artistically expressive' visual show for people with more money than sense.

But then, what do I know about fashion!

V06 · 03/10/2022 09:56

Another example of the madness, these destroyed converse pumps can be yours for somewhere in the region of 2,000.

Looks like a slurry pit......ridiculous

In yesterday's Times style magazine there was a grey hoodie for £890 by Celine.

The model's posture was the worst thing for me. As my nan would say, stand up straight with your shoulders back or you'll have a hump when you're older!

user1497787065 · 03/10/2022 10:10

I've thought this since a dress with trainers became a thing. Comfortable I know but does anyone really think it's a good look?

lannistunut · 03/10/2022 10:12

Made you look though.

thenightsky · 03/10/2022 10:13

The model reminds me of Mrs Overall from Acorn Antiques with her terrible posture.

ThistleSifter · 03/10/2022 10:19

The model walk and gait is like Frankenstein on a mission

Florenz · 03/10/2022 10:33

High fashion has always been weird.

Haha that just reminds me of zoolander and the "derelict" collection 😄

honestly I've always seen these sort of fashion shows pretentious wank 😂

I saw one recently were a model was strapped upside down to and another model so both models had their faces in each others croches 😯

OhAmBackAgain · 03/10/2022 10:45

ok wasn't that recent was 2016

That’s so incredibly weird

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 03/10/2022 10:50

Is one of the problems that many of the designers do not have much ahem natural interest in women and woman's bodies, so they try either to make them look like adolescent boys or just cover them up in odd ways? When you look at fashion from earlier times, it was about emphasising and flattering women (even if they did have different ideas about erogenous zones).

Divebar2021 · 03/10/2022 10:55

But you’re talking about couture fashion which has always been about theatre. There are many many examples of clothing that the average person would not wear so it’s not new. That article with the incredibly expensive hoodie was also about the top 1% so not about general day to day wear either. What trickles down are diluted variations although I’d say street fashion was massively influential now in trends. Yes I think dresses with trainers looks good.

It's a posture of tension and trying not to fall over. Put her on normal ground amd she'll be fine.

WTH 😂

DubLynn · 03/10/2022 11:37

Watched the clip. Disgusting. And agree the model is so focused on not slipping that she's stomping

Hawkins001 · 29/11/2022 22:38

@V06
Apparently some of the various styles is so the creators put there name out there for various companies to take an investment in the designers designs etc.

Florenz · 29/11/2022 23:48

I'm sure there are more normal fashion shows where they wear high street clothes that normal people might actually wear. The type of fashion shown in the OP is just stupid.

Disgusted by Balenciaga campaign 2022 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4687082-disgusted-by-balenciaga-campaign-2022

ComtesseDeSpair · 30/11/2022 00:22

Even off catwalk, the high street has bizarre turns quite frequently. I sometimes look at the racks and think that if I showed up to work - or even to meet my friends - in some of the stuff that passes as fashion, they’d take one look and ask me if I was quite alright. Has anyone ever managed to pull of an oversized bright green culottes suit with Jesus sandals?? Please write in.

RobertaFirmino · 30/11/2022 00:36

Yes, it is weird. My DM thought the fashions when I was a young woman were weird though. Her DM probably thought the same and so on. It's the same with make-up and music too.

Having said that, Balenciaga really are a hideous shower.
