To expect my slippers to last longer?!

So, I bought a pair of ballerina style slippers for £18 from Next exactly 3 months ago. The soles have slowly been splitting on the sides we're the ball of my foot is. This morning I noticed part of the sole has now fallen off. I only wear these slippers indoors, never outside.

AIBU to expect a pair of slippers to last longer than 3 months even though they were only £18?

YANBU. I would ask for a replacement pair, unless you have freakishly shaped feet with sharp edges.

That's really crap - slippers should definitely last longer than that. It's not like you've worn them to climb up a mountain or something! Pottering around the house in them should definitely not leave them ruined in three months and I would take them back.

Thank you both! I took them back and got a refund Smile

This always happened to me until I got ugg ones. Had them 5 years!

KangarooKenny · 10/10/2022 07:25

Well done, I didn’t think they’d refund after that length of time.

“Only” £18? My slippers were £3 from B&M 😄

I bought some loafer sheepskin lined slippers from Next last year. They were £39 and have split. I usually get three years out of Totes. Have just treated myself to something lush from Drapers of Glastonbury. Comfier, warmer, nicer - if they last for two years will be cheaper than those from Next.

I bought my dh some slippers from next, they completely fell apart after 3 months. I bought a pack of 2 t shirts which had those tiny little holes after the first wash ant 2 pairs of leggings which the stitching came undone after a few washes. None of these were cheap, I have used Next for years and I think the quality of their clothing has really gone downhill.

I have actually now taken the plunge and bought some Uggs. I don't know why I didn't do it years ago... they are the best slippers I've ever had, hoping they last a good couple of years!

Love me some Ugg slippers! Stick the vacuum nozzle in them when they get a bit flat and they’ll fluff up again

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/10/2022 09:30

I'm quite tempted by UGG slippers, but I'm worried my feet would stink them up, and I presume they can't be washed.

What a great tip - thank you!

My uggs lasted for ages on the soles however I put my toe through the end as never wore socks with them and was kneeling on the floor with the DCs etc. I patched them up as only wore them indoors and they are still going strong

PugInTheHouse · 10/10/2022 10:45

Basically any slippers with soft soles always fell apart for me as we have tiles in the kitchen diner and they are not smooth ones so they would rip really quickly

My late OH bought me a pair of these about 8 years ago, I use them to go over to the garage as well as inside and apart from being a bit grubby they're still in good condition. They were about £25 when he bought them, he 'surreptitiously' wandered into the shop where I'd admired them in the window, carried them around all afternoon then was offended that I wasn't in the least bit surpised on Christmas morning!
