Following a few threads evidently started by journalists looking for a story, I've been thinking about how they construct the AIBUs in such a way that they'll generate argument, outrage, disagreement and a large volume of replies.
I think that with a bit of thought we could come up with the perfect DailyMailTroll thread, and then launch it, and make life a tad easier for some underpaid, talentless, unethical newsdesk trainee who would really rather be working as a publicist for Tiger Aspect.
So what are the vital elements of a DailyMailTroll thread? Let's get a list and then blend them into a story that might lead to an AIBU.
Thus far I have....
- sisters
- cfery
- treatment of children that could be seen either as 'responsible' or 'abusive'
- a sum of money in the region of £100-£250
- ambiguous behaviour on the part of a husband
- almost anything to do with texting
...actually as I write this, I see that the important thing is pitching the contention is such a place that there's sufficient wiggle-room for perfectly valid but diametrically opposed opinions. There's been a recent one about duplicate baby shower gifts that hit exactly that sweet spot.
But, anyway, what else is a good ingredient for an AIBU intended to wind us all up?
