Anyone else thinking fuck it and now spending money? We desperately need a new carpet and furniture.. I have procrastinated for two years and have now decided to spend the money before we cannot actually afford it !

If you are short of money, don't spend it impulsively now. You might need that for heating bills or fuel.

WallaceinAnderland · 29/09/2022 00:13

What are you expecting to lose it on?

Cheeselog · 29/09/2022 00:15

Theoretically this is behaviour that high inflation incentivises, the problem is the chaos that’s going on is making many people hold off from large purchases in case things get worse. But if you need them you need them and better to get them at a lower price than wait until prices have gone up even more.

We are not short of money but not massively well off. I have always been very cautious. I am now thinking that we need furniture and carpet and if I don’t get it now …who knows when we can afford it again! Just wondering what other think.

Put it all on red, let us know how you get on…

Sorry probably not lose it ! Wrong heading. I meant use money for different reasons.

What does red mean ?

Well, what reasons would you use it for? If you have money put by and don't need it for anything else, why is spending it a problem?

Pixiedust1234 · 29/09/2022 00:33

Carpet yes, furniture no. A new clean carpet can make a room seem more welcoming and pleasant and you can't get one second hand. Could you go to one of those offcut places? All of ours have been end of roll and you can save a fortune. New furniture is similar to new cars, overly expensive and depreciate quickly. Could you look at good quality 2nd hand ones in good shops like British heart foundation etc?

Apprently Truss put in on red, Kwarteng put it on black.

If it something you need and can afford without going into debt, then go ahead. Personally, I would go with purchasing the carpet before the furniture.

Puppetsare · 29/09/2022 07:24

Can you have the carpet cleaned and buy a cheap and cheerful rug?

dudsville · 29/09/2022 07:27

This doesn't make sense to me. You've been saving up for one thing, and are now anticipating the bed to potentially spend it on whither thing instead. Isn't that just good that you have that option to not go into debt?

Godsplan21 · 29/09/2022 10:07

@Pixiedust1234 I agree. I moved recently and needed new sofas but I was adamant I was NEVERRRR buying one from DFS again. By the time I had finished paying the last lot off, I hated them, lol. This time I brought off ebay. I got a lovely World of leather, 3 piece suite that was in good condition for £51! I cleaned it, added more stuffing to popf up a bit and ordered some leather restorer and they look amazing.
