What to do with 11 year olds for Halloween

Halloween is DS’s favourite “occasion” but the last couple of years he has been let down by friends and I’ve tried making it up to him at home. Prior to that he loved trick or treating and every year looks forward to Halloween. Last year he had his costume all ready and was super excited but then found out that his friends had lied and had a party without him (they sent him a photo of themselves having fun it was horrid). We watched a movie and played games at home together but he was really hurt.

So this year he has started high school and is once again getting hopeful for a good Halloween. I suggested he invite some of his new friends round here but I’m not sure what to do with them. Would 11 year old boys want to play silly Halloween games like bob apple? They’re certainly too young for a horror movie. I can’t spend too much as on a very limited income. Not sure about taking a group of kids I don’t know trick or treating…
Help! What do your 11/12 yo lads enjoy at Halloween?

I had a Halloween party in year 8, about 12 and it was great. We properly decorated the house beforehand and had Halloween themed food and then did games like bobbing apples, eating sugary ring donuts that were hanging from the washing line. We got a book from the library of ideas which covered cheap ideas for decorations, food and games

My 11 year old would love a Halloween party with games. He'd be with his friends having fun, so what's not to be like 🤷 We did apple bobbing last year and he really enjoyed it. Sounds like fun to me - go for it!
