Would you expect to pay for 5.5 year old if pricing is

0-5 free
6-17 £25

I was charged and told under 5s are free and as 5.5 years old I have to pay!

I'd expect not to pay as they aren't six yet.

Unicorn717 · 21/09/2022 11:53

That pricing says you don't have to pay until they're 6? So he would be free if he was 5 and a half?

townofhull · 21/09/2022 11:53

I don't understand why they charged you as your child is 5.

BarkylLoner · 21/09/2022 11:53

I would not expect to pay as it clearly states pricing starts at age 6

OrigamiOwls · 21/09/2022 11:54

I wouldn't expect to pay as by their pricing structure payment starts at age 6.

SudocremOnEverything · 21/09/2022 11:55

Why did the .5 even come into it?

Q: How old is s/he?
A: 5

Surely only 5 year olds care about the difference between 5 1/2 and 5 3/4 and so on.

SpinningFloppa · 21/09/2022 11:55

They said under 5s are free your child isn’t under 5

They didn’t though. They said over 5s pay and he’s not over 5. He’s 5.

I get this, but then pricing doesn't start til 6? So there's a year missing on their payment system.

JenniferBarkley · 21/09/2022 11:57

YANBU, under 6s are free.

SudocremOnEverything · 21/09/2022 12:00

How was the pricing actually presented?

and what was it that is free for children under 5 but £25 for older children?

Hoppinggreen · 21/09/2022 12:00

From that I would say 5 year olds are free

Whichwhatnow · 21/09/2022 12:01

No of course not - he's still 5! If they meant under 5s then they should have said that.

I'd be contacting wherever it is to make a complaint personally and ask for a refund.

Bookworm20 · 21/09/2022 12:02

Based on whats written there, they whouldn't have to pay until they are 6. So I wouldn't expect to pay for a 5 1/2 year old.

Did they ask exact birthday?

I'd expect them to be 5 so free. They aren't 6. You don't round up ages you round them down.

The sign does not Say under 5....look at it again.

AmyandPhilipfan · 21/09/2022 12:03

If it's a venue that clearly says 0-5 free and 6+ a certain price I would expect it to be free and I would argue with the venue that their signs show the child should be free.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/09/2022 12:03

If it specifically says 6-17 I would expect to pay for a 5yo, even the day before their 6thbirthday.

It its U5s free, 5+ ££ I would expect to pay for 5yo.

mamabear715 · 21/09/2022 12:04

I would expect to have to pay after a child's 5th birthday.

Jules912 · 21/09/2022 12:04

If displayed exactly as you've written it I'd expect 5 year olds to be free, though I'd be surprised as that's the normal age places start charging. If they'd written:
0-5 free
5-17 £25
I'd expect to pay for a 5 year old as 5.5 is technically older than 5.

Clarinet1 · 21/09/2022 12:07

If it clearly say 6-17 £25, then this child is not 6 so should go free!

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 21/09/2022 12:07

I'd probably expect to pay but would argue the toss that I shouldn't.

Hugasauras · 21/09/2022 12:07

Free. It literally says 0-5 free!

Stompythedinosaur · 21/09/2022 12:08

Depends on exactly how the pricing was presented.

If it literally said 0-5 go free then obviously a 5yo should be free, but I wonder if it said under 5s are free, when I would expect a 5yo to pay.

Floweryflora · 21/09/2022 12:09

Can you show us exactly what it said, was it as you wrote it?
