Would you expect to pay for child

Would you expect to pay for 5.5 year old if pricing is

0-5 free
6-17 £25

I was charged and told under 5s are free and as 5.5 years old I have to pay!

I am aware (of course) that the existence of nhs dentists is near mythical in some
parts of the country. Which is a disgrace, frankly.

Sarahcoggles · 21/09/2022 12:29

I'd be calling again saying you need a £25 refund.

0-5 is free.
Your child is 5 until their 6th birthday. Then they're over 5.

Soubriquet · 21/09/2022 12:29

I would expect free yes.

They need to word it differently though.

Such as 5 and under free.

IncompleteSenten · 21/09/2022 12:30

And yes I know this is not law. In case anyone wanted to say that 🤣 my point is not about the law but about how birthdays work and your age in-between them

LongLivedQueen · 21/09/2022 12:34

The sign isn't as clear as it could be

It really couldn't be any clearer. 0-5 is free...means anyone aged 0,1,2,3,4 and 5 is free. Anyone 6 to 17 is 25 pounds.
How much clearer could it possibly be?

Georgeskitchen · 21/09/2022 12:41

If you are expected to pay for a five year old it should be worded as under 5s free

Butchyrestingface · 21/09/2022 12:47

I wouldn't expect to pay anything. And I'd want a refund.

They also sound exceptionally dim-witted. Are you sure they want them near. you or your kid's mouths with an electric drill?

drpet49 · 21/09/2022 12:54

Clarinet1 · 21/09/2022 12:07

If it clearly say 6-17 £25, then this child is not 6 so should go free!

Yes this.

Beees · 21/09/2022 12:56

I honestly don't understand the 19% think you're unreasonable. How can anyone think the child would be anything other than free on the basis of what their own website says?

They only charge for people over 6 and the OPs child isn't 6 yet. How are this many people misunderstanding something so simple?

whynotwhatknot · 21/09/2022 12:58

ring back and ask to speak to the manager-and if they dont budge go somewhere else plenty of private dentists about

VeganCow · 21/09/2022 12:58

Going by their rationale, its only free until child has 5th birthday. Over 6 are charged. So, there is a missing pricing structure for age 5-6 then?

5zeds · 21/09/2022 13:03

They said -5 were free so you shouldn’t be charged

girlmom21 · 21/09/2022 13:06

She's not 6 so you're owed a refund.

If it says 0-5 Free then 5+ £25 they might have a leg to stand on.

Mommabear20 · 21/09/2022 13:07

@LongLivedQueen @SudocremOnEverything because they're often funny about the cross over year, as OP is experiencing. I'd rather be prepared to pay and not have to than expect it free and get into an argument about having to pay.

Madamecastafiore · 21/09/2022 13:13

Wow! We paid from their first check up at private dentist. I'd just be grateful to be honest.

JudgeJ · 21/09/2022 13:14

SpinningFloppa · 21/09/2022 11:55

They said under 5s are free your child isn’t under 5

No, it doesn't say 'under 5s are free', it's the sort of thing I used to use teaching statistics as How not to word a survey! It should have said 0 > 6 free, 6 > 17 £25, 17+ adult rate, then there are no gaps!

Naunet · 21/09/2022 13:16

Why?! It’s a private service, nothing to be grateful for, but I would expect a decent level of customer service.

Always one 🙄

LifeIsaRollerCoaster1 · 21/09/2022 13:18

The way it's presented there no, you pay from age 6. If it was worded 0-5 free and 5-whatever £x I'd expect to pay once they have turned 5.

Checkmateready · 21/09/2022 13:22

They need to change their wording to “under 5s free” if they want to charge for a 5 year old. I would argue this payment.

abovedecknotbelow · 21/09/2022 13:28

Don't private dentists have to provide nhs dentistry to kids? Mine does. We're private, kids are nhs.

Anyway they have worded it incorrectly is should be under fives if they want anyone older than five to pay.

AryaStarkWolf · 21/09/2022 13:31

If that's exactly how it was worded then no absolutely not, 5.5 isn't 6 yet

Somethingneedstochange · 21/09/2022 13:32

But your child isn't under 5. You pay after the child's 5th birthday. Why is it so hard to understand? They state under 5's free not under 6's.

LilacPoppy · 21/09/2022 13:33

@Somethingneedstochange how can you not read the very basic wording?

mushroom3 · 21/09/2022 13:34

It should have been free. I would call them and say what is on their website and if they don't refund you the £25 then contact your card issuer, your DD is not 6!
