Would you expect to pay for 5.5 year old if pricing is

0-5 free
6-17 £25

I was charged and told under 5s are free and as 5.5 years old I have to pay!

OP posts:

They haven't though. The 5 year old is clearly included in the first category.

It's worded with no ambiguity at all, the only problem is the person who charged the OP didn't seem to grasp the very simple concept of numbers under 20.

And, to be fair, some posters on here who don’t seem to be able to grasp the fact that 5 and 11 months and 31 days is still 5.

Indeed. I'm horrified so many grown adults don't seem to be able to process something so basic!

Yes. Though I'm struggling to understand how even someone who had never had a maths lesson in their lives could fail to know that a 5 year old is in fact 5.

5zeds · 23/09/2022 09:23

If the answer to “how old are you?” is “5” that’s how old you are, and you don’t pay.

fucap · 23/09/2022 09:47

Jesus H Fucking Christ

I normally don't like this expression but to be honest it's perfect here.
I can't believe there are so many people who cannot understand this pricing structure.
A five year old is not 6.
There is nowhere in the pricing structure that uses the word under.
It couldn't be clearer.
I do wonder if some people are trolling vy going on about how they would expect to pay based on that. Surely nobody could be that fucking daft?????

The dental practice has made a mistake, either in charging the OP or in writing their website or failing to updare the website if the policy has changed.

The OP should complain and the dental practice should take whatever steps necessary to correct the issue. Reminding staff that 5 year olds are not 6 or changing the website so that it reflects their actual pricing policy.

LongLivedQueen · 23/09/2022 09:49

Surely nobody could be that fucking daft?????

Oh they really really can. And dafter

pigsDOfly · 23/09/2022 09:53

The website states: 0-5 free 6-17 £25

Why do some poster keep repeating that the website says 'under 5 is free' when the words 'under 5' do not appear on the price schedule?

It's really irritating.

It makes it even clearer that the 5 is included when you see that the 2nd age bracket, first of all it starts at age 6 but also ends at age 17, they're clearly charging what is probably a reduced price until the patient turns 18 when they will be charged full adult price. If these people think that the day after your childs 5th birthday they have to pay they must therefore also think that 17 year olds have to be full adult prices.......

TheGoodFighter · 23/09/2022 00:02

It literally says that is precisely what is written on the website.

As many people struggling with words as with numbers

The op doesn’t say that, deary me.

ABBAsnumberonefan · 23/09/2022 11:25

And as I said, I misread the second post where it was clarified which I hold my hands up to but the OP did not say the website says this. Instead of being condescending why don’t you read what I wrote too? Goes both ways my loves

ABBAsnumberonefan · 23/09/2022 11:27

IncompleteSenten · 23/09/2022 08:20

What does?
The sign that says
0-5 free
6-17 £25
Says under 5 not 5 and below?

0-5 free
6-17 pay
Is actually
"Under 5 not 5 and below?"

It says the literal opposite. It says you only pay once you reach the age of 6. That's what 6-17 means.

Please explain because I genuinely can't understand how anyone can read 0-5 free 6+ pay and take that to mean you pay from your 5th birthday

Neither words or numbers appear to be your forte.

degsydoodoos · 23/09/2022 12:32

YANBU at all! 0-5 includes 5 year olds, if they meant under 5s they should display it as 0-4 free and 5+ pays!

IncompleteSenten · 23/09/2022 13:15

At least we now know why the sign is written like that. Too many people think from the day after your 5th birthday, you're 6 years old apparently and clearly the writer is one of them. I mean, I always thought that you turn 6 on your 6th birthday but 🤷

Oh dear - OP as in OPENING POST. Fgs, maybe reading comprehension isn’t your strong point????
I have a first class degree in English thanks very much my love.

I think you should stop trying to make yourself look smart now. I already said the following post I misunderstood and I clarified that in my second post. Get a life.

Zilla1 · 23/09/2022 14:14

HNRTT but is the decision maker Korean?

OP means Original Poster.

I'm cringing for you.

Yes it is but tbf after reading the exchange it's pretty clear that @ABBAsnumberonefan means that the opening post isn't clear rather than the the subsequent posts by the original poster

** I don't agree that the opening post is unclear btw

Why did she have to be that explicit? It was very clear to me and many others that's how the pricing was stated 😂

Okay? It wasn’t for me and like I have said I realise I misread the second post which explained it. Never made a mistake have you not? Never read anything wrong? I would love to be you in that case.

Leaving this here now & going back to school since apparently I can’t read or do maths!

cakeorwine · 23/09/2022 18:50

Whatdidyoudo99 · 21/09/2022 12:11

It’s exactly how I have written it

0-5 free of charge
6-17 years £25

This is what the OP has said in her posts.

I fail to see how anyone can think that a 5 year old should pay.

Ask a 5 year old how old they are. If they say 5, they don't pay
