Would you expect to pay for 5.5 year old if pricing is

0-5 free
6-17 £25

I was charged and told under 5s are free and as 5.5 years old I have to pay!

Nope, a minute later you're still 5. They don't have a cut off of 5 years and 1 minute. You pay when you're 6. So until you're 6, you don't need to pay.

I'm also confused by how many people think you should pay for a 5 year old, when the pricing makes it clear they're free.

There's no however there. 0-5 means 0, 1, 2, 3 AND 5.
Then 6+ means 6 and onwards.

If it were under 5s and then the next group starts at 6 it would leave all the ones who are actually 5 years old out. Neither group would include the ones that have turned 5 but not 6 yet in this scenario?

Don't worry about the future generations these days maths concepts are imbedded much more securely so fortunately the children currently in school wont make such simple mistakes. It's the adults who are raising them who don't seem to be able to understand simple maths that we need to worry about.

If this is clearly stated on their website/terms and conditions then I'd complain actually.

Your child is still 5 after the day of their birthday. Whether it's 5 years and 1 day, or 5 years and 364 days, they're 5 until they have their 6th birthday.

I remember being told about a child who, when asked how old he was, answered "I am 5 at school, 4 at home and 3 on the bus"

They are still 5 so no I wouldn't expect to pay as their next bracket is 6 and above.

Dentist needs to work out do they mean under 5 are free so

0-4 are free

and pay 5/16

or 0-5 free and 6 pay

i would have said no , dc is 5 and not paid
