Would you expect to pay for child

Whatdidyoudo99 · 21/09/2022 11:52

Would you expect to pay for 5.5 year old if pricing is

0-5 free
6-17 £25

I was charged and told under 5s are free and as 5.5 years old I have to pay!

OP posts:
JustAnotherManicMomday · 22/09/2022 22:44

Your post is a bit confusing 0-5 free under under 5's free are not the same thing. Under 5s free then I would expect to pay for a 5 year old 0-5 free I would expect a 5 year old to be free.

Mummysharkargggggggg · 22/09/2022 22:49

I'd expect it to be free

007Stocko · 22/09/2022 23:22

Absolutely not. 0 - 5 are free, your child is 5. Otherwise it would say 'under 5's free'.

PJJA · 22/09/2022 23:31

He is over 5 - he’s 5 months over 5 years of age so is not under 5

Kteeb1 · 22/09/2022 23:39

Why on earth did you get so explicit and tell them your child was 5 and a half. We dont say we are 40 and a half when asked our age in shy case it's nonsense. Charges start at 6

Yeah sorry it doesn’t say that’s what it says on the website / sign though does it? Could’ve been the OPs interpretation especially since the receptionist said under 5s. I can see now she says later that’s what the pricing is wrote as which was me misunderstanding but the OP isn’t that clear really 👎👌that’s how I interpreted it that way.

It literally says that is precisely what is written on the website.

As many people struggling with words as with numbers

TheGoodFighter · 23/09/2022 00:06

MmeCamenbert · 22/09/2022 09:17

I read it as the moment your child turns 5 you are expected to pay? Under
5, free, 5 and 1 day, pay?

Jesus H Fucking Christ.

0 to 5 free.
6 to 17 pay.

You read that as 5 year olds pay? So you think 5 year olds are aged 6 to 17.

We're all fucking doomed.

Because the dental surgery has the DOB of the child?
I am genuinely flummoxed by those saying 0-5 means this child isn't in that bracket at 5.5. The .5 is irrelevant and the child is 5

Autumn61 · 23/09/2022 01:57

SpinningFloppa · 21/09/2022 11:55
They said under 5s are free your child isn’t under 5

Where does it say under your 5s?

brianna5 · 23/09/2022 03:41

@IncompleteSenten

🤣🤣🤣🤣

jamdonut · 23/09/2022 07:08

They need to change their notice ,then, to “under 5’s free”
I think that is very misleading.

cakeorwine · 23/09/2022 07:31

I wonder how some people are going to cope when they read signs saying over 65 plus are free.

And they say well - I am 64.5 so I am not 64 so I am 65 so I get it free Grin

Mommabear20 · 21/09/2022 12:19

When signs are written like that, I'd expect to pay for a child aged 5, but be happy if I didn't have too.

Why would you expect to pay if you child is 5 but the sign says only 6-11 pay?

TheOrigRights · 23/09/2022 08:09

PJJA · 22/09/2022 23:31

Nor is he 6.

anon666 · 23/09/2022 08:10

Free. Payment starts at 6.

anon666 · 23/09/2022 08:14

If you query it and they don't budge I would say they are probably entitled to charge.

If companies advertise wrongly I don't think they are obliged to offer the incorrect price. Often they do for goodwill, but legally I don't think they have to.

If their price policy doesn't quite match the website, that could be a genuine error in fact, and I think that's okay.

CatsnCoffee · 23/09/2022 08:18

It’s the sudden leap from £0 to £25 which is so shocking. The price should be tiered (eg 5-10 £10, 11 upwards £25).

IncompleteSenten · 23/09/2022 08:20

ABBAsnumberonefan · 22/09/2022 20:03

It says under 5 not 5 and below

What does?
The sign that says
0-5 free
6-17 £25
Says under 5 not 5 and below?

0-5 free
6-17 pay
Is actually
"Under 5 not 5 and below?"

It says the literal opposite. It says you only pay once you reach the age of 6. That's what 6-17 means.

Please explain because I genuinely can't understand how anyone can read 0-5 free 6+ pay and take that to mean you pay from your 5th birthday

cakeorwine · 23/09/2022 08:26

Abraxan · 23/09/2022 07:35

There's 1 born every minute

And usually parted from their money

I believe that only applies before any transactions have taken place. You can't complete a sale/treatment/service and then reveal that your advertised pricing is incorrect otherwise how would you ever be sure if the price of something?

BaileySharp · 23/09/2022 08:41

They seem to have left out 5 year olds. Charging price is from 6 so I would expect it to be free

They haven't though. The 5 year old is clearly included in the first category.

It's worded with no ambiguity at all, the only problem is the person who charged the OP didn't seem to grasp the very simple concept of numbers under 20.

Another one!

How have they left out 5 year olds?

0-5
6-17

Do you need a small child to explain to you where 5 year olds are covered in the above?
