To think this appartment seller will be a ball ache?

So 2 months ago this perfect apartment came up and I began speaking to the owner. She wouldnt let me view it as she asked me about my profile, I explained, and she said "so you need to get a mortgage then?" I said "yes" (.....thinking "like most people").
So she said "sorry I only want to show the apartment to certain profiles" (aka cash buyers I guess).
I moved on, and a week later she wrote to me asking if I wanted to view it. I said no.

Now 2 months later I see a new ad has come up for this same flat. So I message her and she replied saying "yes the apartment is back on as my buyers didnt get their mortgage". I said that was a shame and she said "yes i followed my instinct with them and i regret that now as they messed me around".

I told her i would be free to view it any time next week ad she said "I need to see, now I really want to make sure I vet the profiles of viewers carefully".

God she is really annoying me! Is it me or does she sound like she will be a huge pain in the ass? Problem though is the apartment is truly perfect for me and I dont see many like this.

Would you persist with this?

She is gonna be a huge pain in the arse. House buying is hard enough without all the crap she is gonna throw in

OrigamiOwls · 17/09/2022 12:45

She sounds like she's gonna make the whole process griefy.

Thinkingblonde · 17/09/2022 12:45

Pain in the arse. I’d look elsewhere. Don’t most people need a mortgage?

Froggyeye · 17/09/2022 12:56

Thanks for agreeing with me I thought maybe I was being over sensitive. Do you think I should reply something to that last message or just leave it?

Presumably she's selling without an agent? In which case avoid.

Froggyeye · 17/09/2022 13:01

@titchy
Why do you say that? This is the first time I'm buying a place so I'm quite clueless. Yes its without an agent

Don't reply, move on, something else will come up.

I’ve purchased two properties over the years, both total ball aches! Whether it was the seller, our flat buyer, chains etc it definitely wasn’t an enjoyable experience.

However I would weigh up whether the potentially annoying but hopefully temporary pain is worth the long term gain of getting the flat you want.

On the plus side she seems to be considering your profile now (!) so that could be a positive if she wants to proceed with you and doesn’t want to be messed about. It would totally depend to me on how much I like the property!

Twiglets1 · 17/09/2022 13:07

You sound a bit flaky yourself as well as her. Why didn’t you view it 2 months ago when she came back to you after a week? I would cut all the drama and just view it & take it from there

Froggyeye · 17/09/2022 13:09

@Twiglets1
I didnt because I actually found her attitude quite offensive!

If you’re a first time buyer that put you in a strong position if no chain. Do you have a mortgage in principle agreed?

Perhaps she has had time wasters, and if she is arranging the viewings herself as no agent she wants to make sure people are ready to proceed. So I don’t necessarily think she’s being unreasonable.

Because an agent is in a much better position to 'vet' potential purchasers than she is. More experienced, and easier to negotiate with. Agents will help with the whole process - so if you think she's stalling, an agent will
act as go-between to sort the issue out. She's a cheapskate.
