To ask what bit me and do I need to see a doctor

I’ve not scratched it but it’s red and hot to the touch.

It’s on the side of my elbow for context.

I’ve also got ‘bites’ on my head, one on my face. They’re weeping 😭 like chicken pox. And what is a weird raised mark on my arm the size of a 10p that has 2 red dots on it. I tried to take a picture but it didn’t show up very well.

Do I need to burn the house down?

Have you taken an antihistamine or put antihistamine cream on them ? That’s where I’d start.

rubygiz · 17/09/2022 07:45

Do you have pets, they don't look like flea bites. Have you been round water like a nature reserve? Pharmacist is best place to go and get them checked

PiscesScot · 17/09/2022 07:47

antihistamine cream or mix some bicarbonate of soda with a little water and paste it on - should give some relief and draw out any gunk.

if the area gets bigger or you see red streaks travelling away from it see a pharmacist.

no idea what bit you - I’m a magnet for insect bites and people often ask “What bit you?”. I think, “I have no idea, I didn’t sit and watch it happen and they didn’t leave a note”

Check for bed bugs

Getofftheladder · 17/09/2022 07:52

Looks and sounds the same as when my DH got spider bite. We know we have the nasty bitey spiders here, but I won’t name them in case the daily fail go nuts. They only bite if you squish them.

Antihistamines orally, antisan on the area and keep it clean. It’ll go down after a week or so. Make sure you’re aware of what cellulitis looks like and if you get a fever go see gp.

I do have pets. I’ve had flea bites before and these seem different.

Phone the dr. They will give you antibiotics. I had the same recently. Weeping bite, red, hot and swollen. Had the same last year too. An infection leads to cellulitis which can lead to sepsis so it’s worth being careful. And definitely call if you feel ill/get a fever.

ElizabethBest · 17/09/2022 07:53

Those aren’t fleas or bed bugs. I’d burn the house down, just to be on the safe side!

Interesting... the two puncture wound mark on your arm implies spider, as that's the only 'bug' that has fangs in the uk. All others would produce a single mark like fleas, mosquitoes, bed bugs and bees/wasps... the fact you have more than one is curious.

Have a look around for the culprit and tag me. I'm erring on spider and you were just unlucky enough to get bitten twice.

I’m in the Channel Islands, not sure if we have different types of spider here to the U.K.

I’ve but a bite/sting cream on it. Made no difference.

Also buy some bug spray to keep them off you.

Sexnotgender · 17/09/2022 08:04

Managed to get a picture of the one on my arm in better light. It’s just appeared overnight. Isn’t itchy, is a raised welt about 10p size with 2 red marks.

Take some antihistamine and keep an eye on it. You could draw round the inflamed area.

OriginalUsername3 · 17/09/2022 08:07

You probably had a spider in your bed and kept rolling on it I reckon

I recently had a spider bite that looked that. It is the season where they launch house invasions too.

Here’s some photos of common insect bites. Might help?:

Georgeandzippyzoo · 17/09/2022 08:11

Your first photo looks like it's infected. Draw around the redness and you can then see if it continues to spread. If creams etc are not working I'd go and see a pharmacist and ask their advice. My DH often has bites and if it gets to this point we know he'll normally require antibiotics.

Sexnotgender · 17/09/2022 08:27

Just checked my (less than a year old) mattress and no obvious signs of bed bugs. Can I assume they would bite my husband too if it was bed bugs?

You mentioned bites on your head and face. Any chance you picked up a louse?

i really don’t think so. I’ve had them once before when my daughter was at primary school and it’s not the same.

OP posts:
Allihavetodoisdream · 17/09/2022 09:22

That looks infected. You probably need antibiotics as it could be or could become cellulitis

Sexnotgender · 17/09/2022 12:46

Got antihistamine and hydrocortisone from the pharmacist. Interestingly the lady that served me showed me a virtually identical bite on her arm! Obviously not just me.

The one on my arm has gone weird overnight. I’ve got a wedding in 10 days and I need to not look like I’ve got the plague 😭

Steatoda nobilis Is present on Channel Islands, and would leave a bite like that.
