2 days ago I arranged a service for my mum. We gave card details over the phone, they asked me to confirm the price I was quoted at the end? And then I was told well see you Friday. This morning my mum got a knock on the door with said service arriving saying she needed to pay, she said I've already paid you need to speak to my daughter. I get a woman calling me demanding payment, when I had assured her I made payment 2 days ago. And theres no payment next to the job etc etc I get off the phone speak to my mum who said she needs to wait to get back home to check if the payment has been taken as its not her usual online banking account she paid off.
I call the lady back and I question if she had written the card details down to take this morning? She said yes we write them down, then we shred them so it's secure. I said we'll it's not very secure as you appear to have lost them, she basically accused me of lying that we had paid, when I questioned why the payment wasn't taken there and then she said we always do it on the morning as people cancel, I said so surely you would take a deposit and then just offer a refund like a normal company??
Google is giving me various data protection jargon, I know from my previous employment that this was a huge no no and someone could potentially have my mums card details so we are going to have to notify the bank to cancel the card.
Any advice?
