AIBU?

To think I can take on a brand new business at 52!

I'm quite excited but know it's going to be hard work (I'm used to that) I've run pubs pretty much my whole life, I have a 31 year severely autistic son too. Anyway my agreement is coming to an end at my current pub and I have applied to take over the very expensive lease on a kiosk in a major city park.

I've basically been offered the lease subject to credit checks etc, what you you all want as an offering in your green space in your city. I've already submitted my business plan etc but it's a bit scary, no more scary than taking on a new pub though!

I'd welcome all your thoughts as it's unknown territory for me.

Sounds great! Good luck, you sound like you know what you're doing.

First thing, with maths at that level you need a really good accountant!

That sounds fab. I'm slightly envious. Where do you find out about and apply for these leases? I'd love to have a kiosk in a park...

Why not at 57? You're not 99! Plenty of well-known people are known for achievements accomplished in later life. God, now I have to think of some... well, all those old white guys who were prime minister in their dotage (Gladstone for one), Laura Ingalls Wilder for Little House on the Prairie, Wainwright and his Lake District walking books. I'm sure there are more modern and exciting examples too....

Anyway sounds exciting and that you have all the know-how.

@OldWivesTale I just looked on the local council's website for property to rent, I wasn't actually looking for the kiosk, I was looking for a unit.
Just keep an eye on your local council's website Smile

I’ve taken on new challenges at older than that - you definitely can and opportunities occur at any age and you grab them with due diligence. It’s an incredible example to your children if you have them.
I wish you the best of luck

@Spck
I do have children, although they're grown up. One is a a successful lawyer, and the other one has his own construction business, my third son has severe autism.
Just to add my children have not had a privileged life so I'm very proud of them as they both work hard.
Thankyou for your comment x
