I need to go through all my notification settings and change some as turn off some notifications as my iPhone is forever coming up with notifications and the screen flashing with notifications and so on. How do you have notifications set up on your phone? What apps do you allow notifications from? My phone literally flashes up with notifications non-stop it feels like

Well, just the stuff I want to be notified about.

Texts and calls

email and Whatsapp, I have to check

that's it. It was honestly a surprise to me that people get news alerts and stuff. I would go mad.

I have news alerts on mine but it’s forever notifying me of something

I imagine we all refine it very differently. You can set up do not disturb very specifically with work and sleep times for everything. Then you can silence all alerts from an app in your phone's main settings, or use the setting within that app to only allow certain notifications. What works for you won't be the same as the next person. I use a combination of all of the above and amend it from time to time depending on circumstances.

livingunderacloud · 15/09/2022 20:54

So to answer your q I guess for me the only ones I allow to pop up all the time are DH and close family/friends WhatsApps, and even that is on silent 99% of the time. Work emails and messages during work hours but muted otherwise. And if there is something big in news I occasionally turn on a news app notifications but that never lasts long as it's really annoying what they class as breaking news.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 15/09/2022 20:55

I have notifications on for WhatsApp and texts. Nothing else. And my phone usually on silent.

But it's a personal thing surely?

Lcb123 · 15/09/2022 20:56

I only get notifications for WhatsApp, text and calls. Used to get news but turned off at the start of Covid, too stressful!

2Rebecca · 15/09/2022 20:58

I allow very few notifications. Mainly texts and missed calls and voicemail. No notifs from social media. They can wait. FB messenger notifs come through but that's usually close friends and family and they know not to spam me with "funnies"

Hibernationsetting · 15/09/2022 20:58

I’m undergoing a lot of stress at the moment, so I’m on “do not disturb” except my immediate family, and I get zero notifications for anything- calls, texts, WhatsApp. I have to actively open them to check.

MsChatterbox · 15/09/2022 20:58

I have every notification turned off. Facebook I will get to them when I go on it. I have my husband notification turned on because he is likely to have the kids and may need to contact me where quick response is needed. But everyone else is muted and I see them when I go on my phone. I hate my phone beckoning me! I have it on vibrate so calls still come through as they're usually important.

welshpolarbear · 15/09/2022 20:59

I have most of my notifications off. Except texts, calls and what's apps (though groups are silent)

My work email accouny has notifications as husband and I share it (self employed) so I'd miss things otherwise if he opens them first.

For things like Facebook, twitter etc I have the notifications set to badges. So nothing pops up.

Nothing else gets through. That lot can be an lying enough!

Then I turn on do not disturb when I want peace!

2Rebecca · 15/09/2022 21:00

My phone is also usually on silent or vibrate only. I hate being with people who are constantly beeping or whooshing

SpicePearl · 15/09/2022 21:01

All alerts switched off for me - I go into the apps to see if anyones messaged me etc. it’s not going to be right for everyone but it’s done wonders for my mental health!

EcoCustard · 15/09/2022 21:06

I don’t have notifications turned on for anything. I have to check messages, email, messenger & WhatsApp etc. Anyone who who knows me well enough or relevant knows to call if pressing or urgent. It works for me but I get occasional comments from friends that I don’t respond quickly enough with messages. I still switch my phone off when I go on holiday though, it’s bliss.

flowerycurtain · 15/09/2022 21:09

random Question if anyone can help.

I view 3 email accounts through my mail app on an iPhone. One is work. Can I set times for that to alert me without affecting the others? I know I can turn it off but I kind of want it odd every night without having to remember

Hotandbothereds · 15/09/2022 21:13

I only have texts, calls and WhatsApp alerts on, some WhatsApp chats are silenced.

Anything else I have to check the app, I can’t stand my phone going off every 2mins. I used to have news alerts but it started stressing me out so I turned them off!

JaneDoe222 · 15/09/2022 21:14

I have alerts for texts, calls & WhatsApp plus alerts for BBC News & BBC Sport for England cricket and my football team.

Redglitter · 15/09/2022 21:16

I have WhatsApp, Viber, texts & calls only

Everything else is switched off

mondaytosunday · 15/09/2022 21:59

Just texts and WhatsApp messages. I don't get notifications from anything else.
My son borrowed my phone for a day and had Snapchat snd instagram on and it was non stop! Turn them off right away.

OriginalUsername3 · 15/09/2022 22:03

Texts, calls, messenger, WhatsApp, and work emails but they're silent. I used to have my phone in silent always but work calls come through now so I have to hear it.

BamBamBilla · 15/09/2022 22:16

Texts, calls and my banking apps are the only things on. No other notifications are turned on at all.

2X4B523P · 15/09/2022 22:38

Just texts until recently when scam discussed on Jeremy Vine show. If someone can steal both your phone and bank card they can empty your account in minutes.

They setup online banking on their phone using details from card and then the one time code comes up as a notification on your stolen phone and they then have full access. To avoid this you also need to make sure your SIM card has a pin enabled so they can’t just swap it to another phone.

I though this could only be done if you have the banking app on your phone?
