AIBU?
To not want an email from businesses telling me they'll be shut on Monday
heatissweet · 15/09/2022 15:53
I've already had at least six. I had no intention of a shopping trip Monday- can just about accept why supermarkets would do this but not clothes shops and other businesses, it just feels like stealth marketing.
Am I being unreasonable?

An if they don't send it people will moan that they didn't know and traveld 769 miles to Primark and now their 2 month old is cold hungry and without onesie.

🤷🏻 Can't make everyone happy

I suppose so. But surely people could just check on the websites or assume shops will be shut that day?
BearGryllsDad · 15/09/2022 17:18
I couldn't agree more.
I had an email from a book company my sons school had been involved with, "reaching out" the day after the queen's death to check my son was okay. Terrible, cynical marketing. I was livid.
iwishiwasonhol · 15/09/2022 17:20
Well i work for a supermarket that is shutting till 5 but having checked the website there is no info on stating that they are shut , no doubt people will be queueing from 6am which is the normal opening
ApolloandDaphne · 15/09/2022 17:21
Surely it is better you know? I have had loads, mostly for shops I only buy online from, but I realise they have a duty to inform their customers of any closures. It only takes. moment to delete the e mails.

I like your faith in people

Almost every single company I've ever used has sent me that email. I just think it would be easier if the ones who were staying open emailed me.

Agreed- maybe the BBC can just say shops will be shut (they probably already have said that) and then we won't have to all keep being emailed.
Mumspair1 · 15/09/2022 17:49
Oh fgs its one day of emails. Just ignore or delete and move on.
Sirzy · 15/09/2022 17:50
I just delete them as I don’t intend on shopping anyway. Not really something I can get annoyed at!
SettingPrecedents · 15/09/2022 17:51
They’re all pretending it’s not a PR exercise. While trying to get their memorabilia out quick enough to beat their competitors to it.
heatissweet · 15/09/2022 17:52
How's it one day of emails? Had them yesterday and today and I'm expecting more tomorrow.
Scarecrowrowboat · 15/09/2022 17:53
I'm just sick of the emails now. Did get a pleasant surprise in an email from a local pub telling us they'd be open though.
Bubblebubblebah · 15/09/2022 17:54
You all need special email adress for marketing emails. 😁
Nothing in my normal one, bliss
QueSyrahSyrah · 15/09/2022 17:58
It's grim. The company I work for has 6 brands. On the day she died we did a social media post for each expressing our condolences, and other than that we've had a marketing blackout until next Tuesday. No social posts, no emails.
livingunderacloud · 15/09/2022 17:58
I've found it really useful actually as them all coming at once is a good time to take a few minutes to hit all the unsubscribe buttons which I forget to do when then come in occasionally.
gatehouseoffleet · 16/09/2022 10:22
It's another chance to virtue signal. We are closed out of respect to the Queen.
No, you are closed as you usually would be on a bank holiday.
Also who knew that you weren't allowed to use social media if the Queen died? Is this something people learnt from other countries' monarchs dying?
