Posting here for traffic truthfully (sorry!). I'm considering applying for an OPMH manager role (community, mainly focused on memory service and day hospital but will include CMHT). Is anybody in this role currently? Or has been? Any hints or tips on areas to brush up on? What may be covered at interview etc?

Is it covering all OPMH including dementia?

I work in this sort of role as a B7, in a community MH team. Interview, as far as I can recall, covered topics such as clinical governance, handling tensions or disagreements within the team, clinical scenarios, understanding systems and processes, managing the balance of clinical and managerial work amongst other things. I had to do a presentation on ensuring effective outcomes, so talked about things such as key performance indicators and patient and family feedback. I'd say it's also important to think about stakeholders and how you will ensure good working relationships, effective management/ leadership styles, having good routines.

It is challenging but I find it very enjoyable and like the advice and guidance aspect of the role. I do also carry a caseload so it's not a purely management role.

Good luck!

It does cover Dementia yes which is my area of interest.

That's really helpful information thank you. I really appreciate it 😄 I think I will apply and see how I get on!
