Hi,
I am prepared to be flamed but I want to know if I ABU about member of the primary school PTA recording via a phone a TV segment and then putting it on social media .
The school have no consent for tv appearances to show my child and most certainly do not have any consent for social media.
This was a major news item and the item was shown fully on social media by the PTA with no permissions asked.

I have asked the school who are responsible but have been met with no response so my AIBU is someone has put this on social media am I right to be mad at this?

The school shouldn't have allowed the footage to be taken for tv without appropriate permissions.

I imagine the pta member assumed permissions were in place and social media would be fine as the images were already in the public domain.

Are you worried that school permitted a TV company to film your child without your permission?
Or that other parents shared the approved, publicly broadcast segment... Hopefully in a proud and supportive way.
Once it's on tv surely it's open to anyone to video using their phone... I recorded a bit with Rick Stein being rude about cornwall!

Have you opted out of permissions? Many assume permission unless signed otherwise

No permission granted for my child's image to be used and forms are always handed In with the boxes all ticket no.
Not much the filming in the school more no permission is giving from us in any way along with the filming it In a person's home from the tv using a phone and putting on social media without even is it OK plus it was the whole school.

Once it on TV people can watch/record /replay it how ever they want. The permission needs to be granted when filming not in someone's front room......

ITV filmed at my kids school last year, express permission had to be granted.

YANBU, but the TV channel haven’t done their due diligence.

Once it’s public anyone can do anything with it. If there was no permission given for your child to be filmed for TV then that is the issue, not that someone then filmed the TV.

I’m not really clear what actually happened as I can’t follow the series of events from your description. Are you saying your child has appeared on tv / social media in a school setting without your permission?

Your issue isn’t with the PTA sharing something they’ve recorded on TV, it’s with the school and TV company for filming without permission.

Once it’s on TV, it’s pretty public
I really don’t see why you’re asking about the PTA where the fault clearly lies with the TV broadcaster and the school

Yes. I think it’s this.

If the PTA member filmed something from the TV and posted it on social media, that’s okay because it’s already in the public domain.

It sounds like your child shouldn’t have been filmed by the TV people in the first place. And the school need to explain how this happened if permission wasn’t given.
