My friend insists that in an episode of The Chase they watched, the first person got eliminated, the second person took home £1000 and the third and fourth person both took minus offers of -£500 and -£1000. All of the last 3 got through so it meant that the players were playing for a minus amount instead of a plus, and they won in the end, so they owed £1500 between them to the chaser/the show. Is that even possible, or legal from a UK TV gameshow? There's nothing about it from googling it either but they insist it happened, and happened against The Sinnerman. Does anyone that watches this recall it happening, or anyone that's been on the show or works on the show can confirm this can happen?

Sorry, should have been the last person took home -£2000 meaning the owed amount was £1500

I dip in and out of this show and I have never seen them play for a minus amount , what is the point of that ?
Sometimes a player may go for a minus amount against the chaser, but never in the final rounds
All together. Mind you , I'm not an avid watcher of it so it might have happened!
Mostly the chaser always wins anyway

Sidge · 12/09/2022 19:18

I have never seen that happen, and can’t see that it ever would.

The Chasers very carefully present their amounts and never offer a minus that would take them below what they’ve earned. Have you noticed the first player is never offered a minus amount?

Your friend has dreamed it!

Nolongera · 12/09/2022 19:25

That's never happened, they never have negative offers until there is money won at the table, and the negative offers never exceed the total won at the table.

This site is fabulous.

My niece is one of The Chasers … I’m a pretty sure that has never happened. I don’t think it’s in anyway possible

Merryoldgoat · 12/09/2022 19:33

No way would that happen.

The offers are all manipulated to ensure it’s not a negative.

I was on The Chase and this came up in the warm up sessions and they said that the Chaser’s lowest offer would never take you into a negative pot.

Cakecakecheese · 12/09/2022 19:38

No. I've been on The Chase and the production staff said that would never happen.

Keyansier · 12/09/2022 20:32

I didn't think it was possible either - how could ITV force contestants to pay them money if they lost a gameshow? It would be in the news if they did that.

@OspreyHeights is your niece Jenny? I love her she’s marvellous!! Equally If Anne is your niece - so is she !

I was just about to ask if the neice was Jenny or Anne and also comment it didn't really matter to me what the response was because I like them both!
