To wear sandals to an informal job interview?

I have an informal chat/interview this week. My problem is I get really hot in this heat so really do not want to wear tights/shoes. Would it be really awful if I wore a smart summer shirt dress and smart sandals? It's for a retail position.

I couldn’t see it being a problem.

Depends very much on the sandals.

I always think sandals look much smarter if they don't have open toes. Personally I wouldn't wear anything you'd expect to see on the beach.

I would totally do it but others definitely wouldn't.

We had a formal function to attend as a family over the summer (dress code was described as graduation/ wedding) and there was a lot of fuss about what people were wearing.

While talking to my SIL beforehand I said I might wear some smart sandals with my outfit (I too hate having hot feet). She was absolutely horrified "but you can't show your toes" (there is nothing wrong with my toes btw). I attempted to reason with her that she must have attended countless weddings where people wore scrappy heeled sandals. She wouldn't budge AT ALL in her view that they were totally and utterly inappropriate footwear.

It took all my restraint at the actual event to not nudge her everytime we saw someone in scrappy sandals and say "sandals". For the record about 1/3rd of the female guests had sandals on.

We are both early 40s.

Wear what you're comfortable in but ideally you should wear what you'd wear if you work there as long as that's not a uniform.

If it’s retail you won’t be able to wear open toed shoes for health and safety reasons so personally I’d go dressed as if you would for your first day of work.

Thank you for your replies. I would need to wear a uniform if I got the job.
