AIBU?
To ask what you're getting your toddler for Christmas?
Christmases · 09/09/2022 09:31
I know it's really early, apologies! But I'm starting to get some ideas together for Christmas gifts and I'm struggling with a "main" present for our toddler. He'll only be 2.5 at Christmas.
Any ideas? He has a sit on rocker and a trike already.

Yeh my son is 3 and he is getting a bike with stabilisers. That's his main present then he will be getting a little bingo game, magnifying glass, dinosaur sticker book. My parents have got him a Spiderman dress up costume.
It was his birthday recently and we got him a "rollercoaster" which has gone down well, it was £160 from Argos. But then we will just be getting into cold weather so may not be great.
My brother got him a kite for his birthday and that went down really well too.
Oh and we got him the Spidey transporter which I think was £45 from Boots. That's well played with so far too!
Just for some ideas for you :)

We got a balance bike at 2
Absolutely loved it
then gravitated to a bike, no stabilisers at 3!
key is to go premium - Isla or frog

Do you have a toy kitchen? We found that the most successful present. Also a doctors kit.
DD had no interest in balance bike but she does like a ride in tractor with trailer. The trailer is important-taking it on and off and tipping.

I second a balance bike ! We have a Frog and love it .
The best Christmas present we got our 2 year old last year was the Melissa and Doug ice cream parlour ( such a huge hit )! It says age 3+ but my youngest who is one also LOVES it !

Oh I just have to say ( after seeing someone else suggest it ) definitely a toy kitchen too! Another hit in our house with both our now three year old and one year old!
sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/09/2022 10:05
How can you be 'struggling' to decide what to get a toddler 😂 They're happy with anything. I'll swap for my teens?
theruffles · 09/09/2022 10:15
My DS will be nearly 2 by Christmas but we have a 4 year old too so already have a lot of the things that you'd usually get for that age. I've got him a wooden train set so far but thinking about a bus with little characters in and possibly a scooter as he loves the one his sister has. I will get him some books, an outfit and some snacks for his stocking (as he loves food so I know that will go down well)
We got DC1 a kitchen for Christmas at that age with some pots, pans, utensils and play food.
ThatsNotMyMuffin · 09/09/2022 10:16
We got a Frog balance bike for my DS around that age. Magna tiles and Duplo were also very popular.
Chanel05 · 09/09/2022 10:21
Moana doll, balance bike, shopping trolley and basket, couple of books
iratepirate · 09/09/2022 11:05
Ours will be similar age at Xmas and we’ve got a Bobbin bike as main present. I did buy that new (with discount codes) as couldn’t find one within reasonable distance second hand. All other supplementary presents from us are either second hand or handmade.
One set of grandparents are gifting an electric ride-in car. (equivalent to what they’ve done for other GC at that age).
No idea if/what other GPs will do as I’m not currently in contact with them.
We don’t do “Santa” in our house, so nothing extra there.
InChocolateWeTrust · 09/09/2022 11:08
At 2.5 a balance bike or scooter are fab.
Other good options:
Duplo sets
Brio train track
The leapfrog ice cream cart my niece has is wildly popular with children that age. Toy kitchens and shops are too, dressing up clothes, books, orchard toys games.
SGChome20 · 09/09/2022 11:11
I’m going with a balance bike as well. Maybe a toy kitchen if I can pick one up second hand. It’s her birthday in December so we’ll need 2 gifts. Other than that just her stocking. I don’t want to go crazy buying stuff for the sake of it.
Eileen101 · 09/09/2022 11:12
Not much, they have no wants or expectations 😂
Building blocks with a 'theme'
Duplo
Books
Probably some character clothing
When our eldest was this age, we brought a toy kitchen which went down brilliantly.
Mud kitchen?
Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/09/2022 20:33
I actually agree about the kitchen too if your child doesn't have one. We got one when DS was 1yr 4 months at Christmas and now he's 3 it's still played with almost daily
Hdocheub820 · 10/09/2022 20:36
Yep agree with kitchen and the Melissa and Doug ice cream parlour (shop around).
DD just got magnetic tiles for her birthday and they are played with every day.
Rinatinabina · 10/09/2022 21:04
I’m thinking about kinetic sand and magnetic tiles as well.
EasilyAmused · 10/09/2022 21:28
My eldest will be 2.5 at Christmas and we're going with a kitchen as his main present. We were going to get one for his birthday but went with this instead - whittlebirduk.com/products/the-ultimate-play-bundle-blush-pink (he'd received birthday money from family which we put towards it). It's pricey but money well spent! He LOVES it 🤩
LillyLeaf · 10/09/2022 21:29
Ours will be 2.5 at Christmas too and getting him a balance bike, not much else though, he got loads for his birthday.
pinksquash13 · 10/09/2022 22:44
Till with fake money. Doll's bed and highchair. New doll.
storming92 · 12/09/2022 22:33
A cute stuffed toy that she has been obsessed with and a Montessori Shape Sorting toy by Gili Toys that I randomly came across. She'll be entertained and also get some exercise in!
