AIBU?
To be absolutely utterly sick and fed up of hearing fucking basketballs?
IQuitUponAStar · 08/09/2022 12:32
I live in a village that out lies a larger town. There's loads of sport facilities but some have a small charge. Over the summer holidays we were inundated with people coming to use the play area behind my house. It's been a constant noise now for weeks due to this and I'm getting really fed up! Even with the windows closed I can still hear it as it's directly behind my house and has brick walls on three sides so the sound really bounces.
Just sat down to do some work and a group of older teens have pitched up and are thumping about. I'm on a deadline and can't concentrate for the noise. Have the windows closed. Can't wear headphones due to an ear issue.
I know I'm probably BU but after ten plus hours a day (yes, genuinely!) for six weeks the slightest hint of it makes me feel like crying! My house is the one with the yellow cross.

Am I being unreasonable?

That's really hard. It's good that teens are outside playing instead of being on their phones, but the noise is a lot.
Can you contact the Council, see if they can suggest any noise attenuation/soundproofing measures they can put in place?
IQuitUponAStar · 08/09/2022 12:49
The council don't own it (nor does the parish, apparently) so they won't touch it.
I know I'm probably BU about the noise but it genuinely has started to grate on me!

If it’s a designated play area with a hoop you are being very unreasonable. It’s a facility that’s there to be used.
justaladyLOL · 08/09/2022 12:54
It is a play area
Kids are playing
Would you rather they stayed indoors and texted on a phone
Hoppinggreen · 08/09/2022 13:21
My son plays Basketball and we have a hoop on the garage.
The noise of it is pretty irritating to be fair but at least I could tell him to pack it in
VictoriaConcordiaCrescit · 08/09/2022 13:34
Sometimes a kid will walk past our house bouncing a basketball and it is very annoying
You have my sympathy op
On the plus side it will quieten down gradually now for a while
DragonsAndMoons · 08/09/2022 13:48
You aren't BU but neither are they.
I know you said you can't wear headphones but what else can you do. I don't have any suggestions but hopefully others will. What is it about headphones that stops you from being able to wear them?
IQuitUponAStar · 08/09/2022 13:50
I've lived in this house since 1984. It was just a patch of wasteland until the streets' residents got together to tidy it up. It's been fine until this summer when a big group of teens discovered it and drive up to use it! They say it saves them money because the one in town charges. The village kids can't get in for them.

I have nerve damage and any pressure on or in my ear is really painful!

I COMPLETELY understand how irritating it is but unfortunately I think YAB a bit U.
Our neighbours have a basketball hoop on their driveway and, although it was lovely to hear teenage boys playing basketball outside instead of Playstation with the curtains closed, I'm very glad that the new school term has started now...
georgarina · 08/09/2022 14:00
Not unreasonable for it be annoying, but they're not doing anything wrong
DragonsAndMoons · 08/09/2022 14:01
I wonder if a white noise machine in your house might help drown it out OP?
And maybe start a petition to end that charges of the one nearer them. I understand why they'd rather a free one then a paid one.
