To be pissed off at the sexist cements?

DH and I have always used either of the family's 2 cars, depending on need at the time.

He's just traded his vehicle in for a sports car, it's very nice to drive, and we'll carry on us8ng whichever car is most suited for out needs for the journey.

We were at our regular niche hobby last night and went to the pub he was drinking, I was driving and quite a few comments from some men were of the ilk of "bloody hell, you're not letting the missus drive the car, are you?".

These men weren't really our friends but more acquaintances that we small talk to each week.

DH answered in a way that happy with, and I stood up for myself and dismissed their comments, but AIBU to be pissed off at the casual sexism?

Fuck it's not even casual sexism.

I think the judicious application of cement in the form of overshoes to these men would make the world a better place. It's just outright in your face hideous sexism. So glad your husband stood up for you.

Tell them to stfu. I've a low tolerance for sexist arseholes though.

That’s not casual, it’s blatant. Good for you for standing up to them. This is the kind of BS I get all the time (I drive a powerful car) & it really pisses me off to have to constantly deal with it. My DH however thinks it’s banter. Glad to hear yours has a different approach

I've had this - DP takes great delight in pointing out that the snazzy convertible is actually my car (which it is!)

We also trade cars as to whatever is the more suitable. It's hard getting a chest of drawers into a 2 seater although I have managed to get a folding wheelchair in once. Had to have the roof down to manage that!

I used to have a sports car. Sometimes people commented about my husband "allowing" me to drive it. He didn't have a licence and had zero interest in cars. Some people are nobs.

I have a very nice car. People want to talk about it a lot, but will always go up to DH - who shrugs and says they better talk to me about it as it is my car. When I bought it, he had to walk off in the showroom as the salesman did it too, and I then phoned the manager to tell them they better find me someone who could talk to me otherwise I wasn't going to order through them
