Bodycon dresses for tweens

HolidayHappy123 · 04/09/2022 18:13

AIBU to say that bodycon dresses are unnecessary for young teens.

I seem to be the only parent who refuses to buy ridiculous mini bodycon dresses for my 13 year old DD. How has this become the norm and what is the alternative to avoid my DD becoming the social outcast she insists she will be.

I think they look nice how they wear them with trainers. They don’t look “sexual” unless very well developed at that age. They don’t show off any more than the Nike pro shorts and cropped top that most of them are wearing at the moment.

What stuff does she wear?

NoYouSirName · 04/09/2022 18:21

My dd has a body con dress and looks lovely. I’m not the clothes police and she can wear what she feels good in. I’m not into telling her to cover her body. Imo 13 is too old to be policing what she wears.

NoYouSirName · 04/09/2022 18:21

13yo isn’t a tween, surely? I think of 9/10/11 as tweens?

Wishyouwerehere30 · 04/09/2022 18:36

I don't particularly like them either (have 14 yr old DD) but it does seem to be the fashion unfortunately. My DD wears leggings/jeans most of the time but when all the friends get together body con seems to be the style. Last year I persuaded my DD to wear a really lovely playsuit from Hollister to a friends birthday party but she felt really out of place so I've given in and bought body con from then on!!

They look fine if they are long enough but most of the ones I've seen barely cover their bums, the kids are plastered in make-up and can't see for their false eyelashes 😆. Oh to be a teen again, no thanks!
I'm all for freedom to wear what you want and the more you fight it the more she'll want soso'd honestly probably get her one that's decent and she'll probably go off it in a few weeks!

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 04/09/2022 18:47

I don’t like them but I think flight

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 04/09/2022 18:47

Oh lord that message went so wrong. Just ignore it 😂

lailamaria · 04/09/2022 19:31

13 is a teenager not a tween an 11 year old is a tween, there's nothing wrong with a bodycon dress i think you can get some really nice ones actually

Stompythedinosaur · 04/09/2022 19:35

13 is a teen not a tween.

I don't love body on dresses but im not sure I'm meant to like teen fashion. Teens experiment with their identity and sexuality.

Catch21 · 04/09/2022 19:35

Bodycon dresses may be fairly new but teens dressing in short skirts and low cut tops certainly isn't - I remember wearing teeny tiny skirts 35 years ago! So YABU to say "how has this become the norm" as if it's a brand new thing that parents of teens haven't come across before.

I'm definitely feeling my age these days! I was waiting at the station to pick someone up the other day and a group of young women arrived obviously going on a night out. They all had spaghetti strap bodycon dresses on, all very short. As they were going upstairs to the bridge they were constantly tugging them down and I remember thinking how irritating it would be to keep having to do that all night.

Hesma · 04/09/2022 20:26

My 12 year old has a couple and they look really pretty

formulatingAresponse · 04/09/2022 20:27

They all wear them at parties
