Fined for taking DS out of school

Posting for traffic as I am PANICKING. Received a fine for taking my son out of school in June, it's been on the side and I kept meaning to sort it, I've just gone to pay it and it says the time period to pay has expired. Next steps it says prosecution and up to £1000 fine! Has anyone had this happen to them? It says on my councils website they will not accept late payments. I think I've fucked up!

Phone them tomorrow, cry, plead a crisis and hope they take pity on you. They probably will if you're annoying and dramatic enough.

Seemslikeaniceday · 04/09/2022 13:59

Pay it today no ifs no buts.

BigChesterDraws · 04/09/2022 14:00

Why did you leave it so long?

Why did you leave it so long?

How on earth is that remotely helpful to someone who is obviously upset and panicking. She already said she left the notice on the side intending to get around to paying for it but she forgot. I'm sure you've never made a mistake or let something slide in your life but you could just not say anything if your only contribution is to try to make her feel worse.

It's worth phoning them tomorrow, I mean what have you got to lose? If you have no luck pleading your case then perhaps contact cab who might be able to advise.

Agree with pp, phone them up in the morning. Apologise and offer to pay straight away over the phone, should be okay.

BiggerBoat1 · 04/09/2022 14:19

You have fucked up, but it may be fixable. Phone them first thing tomorrow and ask if you can pay it. It will probably suit them better than to take you to court.

Good luck.

raindon · 04/09/2022 14:23

Phone them and ask them if you can pay it. Don't mention it being late. If they raise it say you've had to save up to pay it.

pottytrainingissue · 04/09/2022 16:33

Thanks for the advice I will be phoning as soon as they open, I did try to pay it online today but it won't let me proceed as it says it's past the 28 days. Hopefully they take pity on me

Hopefully. It's not really in their interest to take it to court.

Meltingsocks · 04/09/2022 17:07

Good luck OP. They will definitely prefer you pay, they haven't the time or funds to take you to court

milliemermaid · 04/09/2022 19:43

I never did pay mine (it was about 4 years ago)
Little girl and I had just gotten through a traumatic time, and I wanted to go to court to argue my case, and I told them this every time they contacted me. In the end I had to go to an office in a nearby town and sign a document to say that I had indeed committed the offence, and that I wouldn’t do it again.
Yes I am an argumentative cow!!!
They won’t take you to court OP.
