Inconsiderate or not?

Inconsiderate21 · 02/09/2022 19:35

To expect DS to look after my two dogs when I am away on holiday for a week with DH.

DIL prefers not to have DS disappear for a week (we live miles away) as TTCing and time is critical due to her age.

I think he should help us as we haven't been on holiday since pre-covid.

AIBU?

It's a lot to ask of someone who doesn't live locally, can you not just put them in kennels?

Cornishmumofone · 02/09/2022 19:39

Can DS have the dogs at his house?

PurpleDaisies · 02/09/2022 19:40

Kennels exist for this sort of thing. I wouldn’t look after someone else’s dogs for a whole week.

I must be off my game! Of course!

jennyt82 · 02/09/2022 19:42

I wouldn't expect anyone else to have our dog whilst we went on holiday. If someone offers then great but if not then I wouldn't ask.

Chdjdn · 02/09/2022 19:42

I don’t understand why he should to be honest

Penguinfeather781 · 02/09/2022 19:44

Yes, it’s unreasonable to expect anyone to look after your dog, for any reason, but especially for something entirely discretionary like a holiday. Especially if it means they have to move out their house for a week.

Loachworks · 02/09/2022 19:46

I'm struggling to see why he would agree to uproot himself for a week for your dog's, your responsibility. He might if forced but I can't think of anyone who'd actually want to do this. Another vote for a reverse

drinkfeck · 02/09/2022 19:47

You can't insist anyone looks after your pets. There are kennels for this sort of thing

But if this is a reverse you're massively fucking unreasonable. I hate reverses. It always hints at twattery behaviour.

FlissyPaps · 02/09/2022 19:47

Put them in kennels.

If you don’t want to put them in kennels then don’t go on holiday or just don’t have pets.

Nor sure what your DIL TTC has got to do with it?

Porcupineintherough · 02/09/2022 19:48

Seriously? You think he should give up a week of his time to save you kennel fees? Why don't you holiday in the UK with your dogs?

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 02/09/2022 19:48

I think there should be those beeps that lorries make when they are reversing with threads like this! Best of luck with trying to conceive, OP.

BloodAndFire · 02/09/2022 19:52

You do know that reverses officially count as trolling now, don't you?

VioletladyGrantham · 02/09/2022 19:56

Now my kids are grown up, l love to have regular getaways with my dh. I also have dogs, so we always choose places that are dog friendly so we can take them too.

felulageller · 02/09/2022 20:00

Yabu

girlmom21 · 02/09/2022 20:07

The logical solutions are: the dogs go to DS or DIL goes with DS or the dogs go into kennels.

Catell · 02/09/2022 20:28

New to MN - what is reversing and what is TTC?

TTC - trying to conceive

Reverse - posting but from the others persons perspective. So if this post is a reverse, the OP is the DIL or DS and is wanting confirmation that they’re in the right.

Got to be a reverse.

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 03/09/2022 12:58

Your Mil is definitely being unreasonable tell her to pay for a kennel or find someone else. Good luck ttc
