I have bought ceiling lights for my kids bedrooms, I bought these really beautiful looking lights which were expensive (for us) but long story short our kids have been waiting a really long time for their bedrooms to be decorated/furnished nicely so I was super keen to make every bit as special as I could.

I know I’m going to sound stupid here - I bought the lights off a company I’d never heard of without reading any reviews.
anyway now I have - and there are literally pages of people warning DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, their products are shit look nothing like how they’re advertised and getting any kind of refund is a nightmare. My other half is going to kill me for being so thick.

the company is called Litfad. Has anyone had any dealings with them? Have their products actually been that terrible? Or if you’ve had reason to return something has it been difficult?
I’m so gutted, and annoyed with myself.

So you haven’t actually received the products yet?

LoveHamble · 02/09/2022 14:00

How did you pay?

GarthElgarsGlasses · 02/09/2022 14:01

Not yet but there are pages of reviews warning people the lights are shit quality a total ripoff etc
I’m expecting them to be awful. I also didn’t realise they’re from China.

@LoveHamble I bought the first one via credit card and the second one by debit card

Ordered 2 lamps and received junky plastic pieces of cheap crap. It's a Chinese website like Wish basically, steal pictures from legitimate products and sell cheap shoddy knock offs that are nothing like the picture. Took over 3 months for both to arrive, complained and was offered a 5% refund, if you try and return they have absolute insane return shipping fees that you are liable for. Others have had similar or just not had anything ever turn up when I looked it up at the time. I hope you paid by credit card or PayPal, if so make them aware you've been scammed and try and claim your money back.

Yikes! I see what you mean 😕

Try a charge back on your dc as they have failed to provide the goods and do not respond to contacts, ask for a s75 back on your credit card.

GarthElgarsGlasses · 02/09/2022 14:05

@caggie3 I actually feel sick. I can’t believe I’ve been so stupid and we can’t afford to just throw away 100s of quid
I only paid for one of them by credit card.
I’m desperately hoping they turn up looking fine but I think this is highly unlikely isn’t it

@LoveHamble
ive never been in this situation before where I’ve had to try and get a refund via credit card, what is an s75???

Sadly yes I would say it's unlikely. I agree with trying to cancel the order but the customer service is absolutely ridiculous. They tried to charge me nearly £200 to return and said they would then take the cost of their initial postage out of the refund, but thankfully we got our money back through PayPal and binned them rather than returning.

Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act means if there is a breach of contract you have an action against the credit supplier or the supplier of the goods. You can choose. In practise most people contact the credit card supplier, explain what has happened and ask for a refund.

It's a very good idea for that reason to always use a credit card for purchases of £100 or more. Even if you only pay the deposit of £200 for a 2k sofa they are responsible for the full amount. It's particularly useful if a company becomes insolvent and you can then get a full refund from the cc.

The same is not the case with debit cards. The charge back facility is useful but the rules are different. You can google it!

To warn others:
I have ordered 2 side tables for my bedroom which were supposed to be solid wood top and beautiful oak finish.
I must say that when the parcels arrived, I was extremely excited as the photos and description on company's website were great and I loved the items I was supposed to receive.
However, when I opened the 1st package I almost burst out in tears. What I have received is not even remotely similar to what I expected. We have decided to build one of the units just to see how badly manufactured it was.
The product is shabby and made to, what I can describe as no standard at all. Parts came damaged and not fully finished. The bits of CHIP board, not wood, are covered with ill-fitting lining and you can see the corners of the board inside! Also, the lining was chipped in a few places anyway. The holes for screws and sides were not fully made so we had to clear them through and drill bits of holes in order to be able to put things together. There are no runners for drawers, so they are loose and just hanging there when you pull them out. The legs seem to be finished with what I deem is wood like looking crafting paper used by children for projects at school! Also glued in wonky.
The list of faults is endless.
If I could give them minus stars I would.
I was certainly deceived by what they have put on website in picture and description of the product. I have spent over 200 pounds on something that is worth possibly 20.
It is also extremely disappointing that when I wanted to post the feedback on the Litfad website under the product review I was immediately blocked as I tried to give no stars to this item.
And then, after I have contacted them to raise a complain and request the refund i was insulted with the offer of 5%! Which in the end ended up with the final offer of 30% after a few emails there and back. I have sent them photos of all damage and described the issues we had and even photos of item from the website and item they have sent side to side and they still claimed there are only minor issues! Absolutely unbelievable.
Therefore, to whomever might consider buying from Litfad company, i would strongly discourage.

Just for balance, I've used this site before to order replacement flush ceiling lights for our bathrooms and when they arrived they looked and worked as expected. Were only about £30ish so wasn't expecting much, but they turned out fine.
