AIBU?

To think that I should be able to cancel car order for a full refund?

My husband and I ordered a new car in May. We put a £500 deposit down and signed a purchase agreement detailing that we would receive the car by August 31st. Last week the dealer notified us that the car would not be in until January. AIBU to think that we could cancel the order and get a full refund so we can buy a used car instead? Or are we really required to purchase the car even though they changed tge dates? We really could use a car at the moment.

Have you read your paper work. Most have a 14 day cooling off period.

Sorry I misread.
I would ask them for the 500 back but also read your paperwork to check if they already have this possibility in it.

We had this happen to us. We were refunded fully.

A similar situation arose with my sister, Vauxhall allowed her to cancel her order and she got all of her deposit back.

My friend waited 8 months for a ford. She said it was worth it tho and the good deal stopped her from cancelling.

unfortunately the wait for new cars is insane, unless you want to buy secondhand you might experience this second time running.

With such a big change in delivery date, I’m sure there would be no problem with getting your deposit back

What’s in the contract? Did they confirm the date in writing. I think it’s common knowledge that lead times for many vehicles are long.

If the car you wanted was already in the system, then the lead time should be shorter. It suggests that the car was already built with the spec you ordered. Then I’d be questioning why there’s a four to five month further delay. Has your car gone to someone else?

We ordered a car in October last year for March delivery, we’ve still not even got a build date. Every few weeks they just push the delivery date back and don’t give a build date. Waiting times are up to 18 months now due to parts shortages.

We are considering selling ours before it loses all value completely and getting second hand whilst we are waiting. The problem is the price of used cars has shot up to ridiculous levels, especially ULEZ compliant vehicles.

I ordered in September last year, was told December/Jan delivery.
Picked the car up on Saturday (less than a week ago). Due to issues with my old car the delays cost me thousands. The dealer has been spectacularly unhelpful about the whole thing.

Supply chain issues are causing a real headache for so many companies. My DH had his car written off last year and the replacement took 9 months.
