A parking one!

I will start this by saying I probably am being unreasonable and peri menopause may be contributing to it.

So i live in a close with on road parking and parking bays. The bays are for visitors and also my close has an alleyway off of it that has about 8 houses down it. The bays are also parking for these houses. I have a driveway but it contains a caravan so i am unable to use it to park. Whenever i have visitors I always ask them to park in the bays so they don't block the parking outside any of the residents homes. There are two particular houses from the alleyway ( which is two doors away from my house) that constantly dump their cars outside my house sometimes for days on end therefore meaning I can't park there. I can't say anything because they aren't doing anything illegal but in my mind its not neighbourly or polite and it makes me seethe silently! AIBU?

Yes i know im being unreasonable, and I definitely wouldn't say anything. The reason the caravan is on my drive is because my dp lost his job and we can't afford to keep it in storage at the moment. I just try not to inconvenience my neighbours and I thought maybe they would think the same way but obviously not.

Why did you ask then? It doesn't matter why you've got your caravan there, you have, your choice.

MissAmbrosia · 01/09/2022 20:07

YABVU but I think you know that

Park in front of your dropped kerb?

Move your caravan and you'd have a place to park

This ^^

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 01/09/2022 20:17

YABU - you don’t own the road. The road is for public use.

our neighbours are like this. We Just moved in and they came over to ask us to try to not park by their house. Cheeky fuckers. They’ve got a drive but enough for 2 but he parks his tresler in the middle so it only fits one car.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 01/09/2022 20:22

Honestly? Move your caravan or get rid.
Selfish caravan owners round our way park their caravans on their drives but still expect to park near their house for their extra 2/3/4 cars on the street.
There's no room!

ShirleyPhallus · 01/09/2022 18:38

Are you allowed to park your caravan on your drive? It’s a condition of the our house (whatever the document is called that I can’t remember) that we aren’t allowed to park caravans on our drive!

Do you live in Bournville? 👋🏻

Cervinia · 01/09/2022 20:44

Caravans area bloody eye sore. YABU.

Mossstitch · 01/09/2022 20:44

@bloodyplanes I'm going against the majority and say I agree with you op......... But that's probably because I have similar issue. No drive, terraces, but part of it has road in front part doesn't. We all have resident's parking permit for carpark opposite so it's not a problem, there is plenty of parking but if I come home (always when I've done a big shop😭) and find a neighbour has parked in front of my house I inwardly seethe too! Would never say anything as its a public highway but I just think it's bad manners. I would never park in front of someone else's house if someone parked in front of my house I simply go on the carpark🤷

I’m not, but I am near a Nestle factory 😂 and you can’t park vans, boats or caravans in our drives.

By your logic, if your neighbours should buy a house with parking, you should buy a house with more parking for your caravan. You can't have it both ways.

You're unreasonable. You need to either sell the caravan or accept that you may have to park further away.

I hadn't thought of it this way. You are correct.

DontKeepTheFaith · 01/09/2022 20:47

YABU because you are contributing to the problem with the caravan.

I’m sorry your DH has lost his job, may be time to sell the caravan if you can’t store it?

It is annoying to have other peoples cars outside your house but nothing you can do but grow some high bushes so you don’t see anything. That’s what we did.

We park our one small car on our drive, our neighbours with up to 4 vehicles and their 2 car drive park their vehicles in front of our house, usually the big work truck. I’m also menopausal so have a muttered rant when I struggle to park and then let it go🤷‍♀️

I'll bet your neighbours love looking out of their windows at a caravan.

Its not really that visible tbh, i have big hedges.

Ah @Cervinia hope you didn't think I was being rude or nosy derailing thread totally
No boats caravans gaudy pained doors or houses , no pubs , a Tesco express popped up much to their disgust lol apparently the Quakers will be turning in their graves

You have chosen to have a caravan so you don’t park your car on your drive, and so you park in bays which are for the houses in the close near you.

That's not very neighbourly, by your own definition.

And you’re cranky with your neighbours parking perfectly legally on the street?

giveovernate · 01/09/2022 22:11

@bloodyplanes when you say they "dump" their cars, can you explain how this differs from "parking"?

Or is it you just using a dramatic word in order to try and make people say YANBU?

Because YABU!

Mosso · 01/09/2022 22:18

They don't let people park caravans on the posh new estates around 'ere. Bloody eyesore.

Do you live in Bournville? 👋🏻

We have a similar set of rules in our missives (they also include a rule forbidding us from keeping pet rabbits for some reason!) but two of our neighbours have stuck two fingers up at them. We are all silently seeking but short of taking them to civil court there’s nothing we can do.

OP - you’re being unreasonable, obvs, but you know that!

SirChenjins · 01/09/2022 22:20

FlissyPaps · 01/09/2022 22:26

Can’t you just block your own drive? Assuming the caravan doesn’t leave the driveway?

No I normally try and park on the road outside my house or over my dropped kerb but I can't if the neighbours are parked there and they have a habit of parking right up to the drive on either side so I can't park over it either.

I "dump" my car wherever there is a space, whilst trying not to inconvenience my neighbours.
