To think 3 white weddings is a bit nuts

Someone I work with just got married for the 3rd time- the full white wedding shabang with lots of bridesmaids etc. This is the 3rd massive wedding she has had and the 2nd one in the time I have worked with her. All 3 to different men obvs but all massive. It must cost a fortune but also it seems a bit nuts. Best part of 20k each time- she’s only 45.

Aibu to think it’s a bit nuts?! I mean I know each to their own but seems a collosal waste of money each time!!!

People are allowed to be as dumb as bricks though. It's not against the law.

I wouldn't be making an effort to go if I didn't want to, mind you.

@thecatsthecats yea I was invited but didn’t go this time as went to the last one and we were away on hols so had an excuse!

Is it J-Lo? Haha

Honestly three weddings white or not, you think she'd have learnt her lesson after two!

Personally, I think one white wedding is a bit nuts, but as you say, each to their own.

Ponoka7 · 01/09/2022 15:56

There's two people getting married, the groom, his Mother etc might want the big wedding. She obviously thinks it's worth spending the money. A younger bride might be planning ahead for maternity leave, furniture etc, were she considers the money spent as fun money.

NumberTheory · 01/09/2022 16:04

I don’t really see why, if you like white weddings, you shouldn’t like three white weddings.

UnboxedThoughts · 01/09/2022 16:06

I used to work with someone who did the big white wedding twice, to the same person, within the space of a year. Barmy.

ReneBumsWombats · 01/09/2022 16:19

Entirely her choice.

The triumph of hope over experience. 😂

A virgin three times over, eh? Even Mary didn't try that one.

mam0918 · 01/09/2022 16:29

Meh I had 2 weddings.

1 was a little short legal wedding with just immediate family then 2 was the whole big white wedding thing with 70 guests and bridesmaids that lasts 12 hours etc....

Frankly the big white wedding was awful, so stressful (like hearding fucking cats) and crazy expensive (even budgeting heavily you will be side swiped, like TWO suppliers cancelled less than 7 days to go so we had to pay way more to get new suppliers last minute).

I was worried I would regret never having the big wedding but after doing both I would honestly recommend people just elope or have a simple micro wedding - I certainly wouldnt do the whole shebang 3 times lol.

How did that work? I was under the impression you couldn't file for divorce until you'd been married for a year.

No idea. I just assumed one was just an excuse for more attention. They are Instagram types.

It's a free country, if people want to blow all of their money on a succession of extravagant parties, then that's up to them.

I would be pretty intolerant of any pleading poverty she does though.

FiveDollarMilkshake · 01/09/2022 17:18

It’s her life! Why do you even care?
