I'm subscribed to a few well-known lifestyle/mum vloggers on YouTube and Instagram, mainly for cleaning inspiration because I'm a lazy git but easily won over by a video of someone mopping.

One posted about her very expensive holiday and home renovations recently, she has a gorgeous family and beautiful home and is clearly doing really, really (really) well for herself.

AIBU to think that very shortly, millions of people are going to be tipped into financial stress and these videos won't quite hit the mark anymore?

I don't want to say they're bragging or flaunting their wealth, but to someone who will be choosing between heating the house or grocery shopping, it might come across that way.

I dunno I just clicked on her video and cringed a bit. Wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

Hopefully. But to some they are a distraction, or an idol.

Hopefully.

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/08/2022 23:23

Maybe, but other chic-frugal ones will pop up.

PrettyIndigo · 31/08/2022 23:24

No one will have the money to support these influencers, by purchasing the various things they advertise, and buying things through the 'link in bio'. I think loads of them will stop posting

DuvetHugger · 31/08/2022 23:25

Yup, the likes of Stacey Solomon and Mrs Hinch are completely unrelatable now.

OhNoWhatYouGonnaDo · 31/08/2022 23:27

I voted YABU because, as a PP said, a new breed of thrifty influencers will no doubt rise up to take their place.

Oooo true

"How to achieve this high-end look on a budget" ...and it's all been 'gifted' to them in exchange for a 5% discount code for their thrifty followers 👌🏻

No I think we'll be more entranced than ever with a bit of escapism. People secretly hate them already but strangely, simple jealousy rarely makes us unsubscribe. We drink poison willingly.

Chakraleaf · 31/08/2022 23:43

I hope so.

People who are minded to watch this sort of archaic housewife fetishism aren’t going to think too deeply about it. They’ll buy more pointless perfumed gunk to vanillarise their B&M bedecked grey crushed velvet houses and continue to fantasise about becoming a ‘high end’ Essex WAG influencer without a single critical thought bothering their heads.

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 31/08/2022 23:56

I mean, when times are tough, people look to escapism don’t they? Like during the Depression, thinking about Hollywood films of the time? Sure there will be thrift versions as PPs have said, but some will stay popular I expect.

Don't sit on the fence, tell us how you really feel 🤣🤣

But yes I agree with you. People will always follow them, people will always purchase crap fragrant smelling cleaning supplies from B and M.

Personally I can't stand the smell of the Fabulous range stuff. I'm old school I like cif lemon cream cleaning, bleach, windowlean and Daz washing powder smells. I'm only in my 30's too 😳

I don't want my kitchen to smell like sparkly zebra arse or whatever magical name they've come up with.

PurplePansy05 · 31/08/2022 23:59

YANBU. They never hit the mark. And yes, they are bragging, call it for what it is. High time!

Not the grey crushed velvet 🤣

You'll be going after their mirrored end tables next
