Next of kin delaying funeral

Next of kin is delaying funeral. Relative passed away over four months ago. there is no end to the situation. Does anyone know if there is an upper limit that the funeral home should store a body before insisting putting at rest and cremation / burial?

Is the next of kin the executor of the will?

I am not aware of one, sorry not to be able to help.

There is I think some merit in the Islamic tradition of burial the following day.
