To think holiday lets should have instructions for appliances? (SOS: Kitchenaid oven)

We’re away in a holiday let. I can’t work out the magic button-pushing, knob-twisting sequence that brings the oven to life. Googling takes me to Kitchenaid’s newer range of ovens with touch screen controls. I’m stumped, as well as hungry (different time zone) and annoyed. One of our party is now ill so we can’t eat out and takeaway is not an option, so we need to get the bloody thing working. So, two questions for the MN massive:

  1. AIBU to think holiday lets should have info about their appliances? YANBU = I agree. YABU = disagree.
  2. Does anyone have this oven? If so, what’s the secret to getting the oven and grill working?

Yanbu

I cannot help but hopefully bumping for someone who can. So annoying.

Worst I had was one with nothing. Turned out when you waved your hand at a certain point the controls appeared in lights. Confused

Thank you @sheepandcaravan We already had a fight with the induction hob yesterday. It should not take 45 mins to get bacon fried and eggs scrambled.

www.manual.nz/kitchenaid/kohss-60602/manual?p=14 is this it?

Is it a problem with the clock bit being set or a timer?

RedLeggedChuff · 31/08/2022 12:05

Haven't got that one, but the magic trick for the last mystery oven was setting the clock, as PP said. Then everything burst into life.

Hugasauras · 31/08/2022 12:06

Yes if there's been a power cut or something then clock might be unset. Ours doesn't go until you set the clock (you don't have to actually set it to right time, just go through the process).

That's a stupid bit of design then. When we get power cuts this winter, I see this as causing a lot of problems, especially for those with poor eye sight, like myself.

Yep it's very irritating although you just need to press one button and it 'sets', albeit at default time.

Edamummybean · 31/08/2022 12:15

This model of oven requires you to set a start time and end time, then confirm before the oven springs to life. This goes against our usual devil may care approach of chucking stuff in and checking now and then to see when it’s done.

DS is hob whisperer and has persuaded it to heat our pan.

Cooking time, that is.

Same with the one I was in recently.
All knobs on.
No heat.
Fiddling with the clock as a last resort and voila - everything sprung into life.

purplepenguin2019 · 31/08/2022 12:24

I'm so glad!
I have many experiences of no instructions in holiday lets driving me mad and end up google image searching the model and clicking through one that looks right so I can google the manual.

YANBU - the bluetooth (why) hob we had in Salcombe a couple of weeks ago had to be Googled, nothing in the apartment. We had the same apartment last year and also had to Google but could not remember what we learned!

I wondered if it was some way to weed out the Northern non middle classes after reading here that it's a middle class haven (I can confirm it is!).

BarbaraofSeville · 31/08/2022 13:03

Manuals probably got taken away during covid.

But seeing as you can find them all on the internet these days, whether the appliance is past or present, even if we're northern and not middle class, then we can live without paper manuals.

Better than supplying one an inch thick for something simple like a toaster because it contains every single European language.

COVID makes sense for removing them, but they could at least provide a list of make/model, ideally with html link or QR code to the manual. I can dream. 🙂
