I deliberately waited this year as to be honest we werent 100% sure what he would be doing given his total lack of work in his GCSE's but in other years I have just forgotten until the last minute!

If your child is staying in full time education, doing an approved course etc then you need to opt BACK IN to be able to continue with your claim rather than cancel the claim if they are not carrying on study.

I got a letter from dwp

So did I, back in June or similar and thought "Oh yes I will sort that" and promptly forgot about it!

Can it be done online or does the form have to be sent off?

KitsyWitsy · 30/08/2022 18:39

It’s automatic now.

What is?

CB being automatically updated on the basis that your child is still in education is really NOT automatic. Learned that last year......

Online as long as you have a Government Gateway sign in. If you dont then it doesnt take long to set up as long as you have ID such as a passport etc. Took me about ten minutes or so. Follow the link in my OP.

OR you can call them but I am sorry, I dont know the number.

Thanks, I do have government gateway so I’ll do it now 😊

RayneDance · 31/08/2022 04:48

Op how long do they get CB for if they continue education?

h78 · 31/08/2022 04:59

Dd1 did a level 3 course after her a levels and I continued getting both child benefit and child tax credit until she finished her course. It lasted a year.

ALT1975 · 31/08/2022 05:53

Brilliant! Thanks for this.
I got the letter a few months ago and completely forgot to sort it.
Set up an account on the Gateway and all sorted now - really quick and easy if you have your ID stuff to hand.
Thank you @PyongyangKipperbang

bawsy · 01/09/2022 08:57

Thank you for the reminder! I've done it online

ShitABrick22 · 01/09/2022 10:30

I guess I did mine too late as I have received £200 less in tax credits than I usually get today.

I think they will back pay you once it renews. I had the same issue because they asked for a letter from school to say dd2 was staying on in 6th form but I wasn't able to get a letter as it was the holidays and school was closed. They added the extra payment as an increase over a few weeks.
