Broken smart meter and going to be without electric

Our smart meter is broken the WAN isn’t working so basically when we top up it isn’t going to the meter topped up £50 on Saturday then realised the fault reported to BG using online chat as phones were shut,
they said it had been escalated and if it couldn’t be fixed remotely someone would call to book a engineer to come out.
our emergency credit is now almost out despite already topping £50 so electricity will go off.
im on online chat now 24th is line they know we have two disabled children who rely on electricity for there disabilities we are on the priority register

it’s a joke can’t get through on phone lines and the online chat bot was useless on Saturday so not holding much hope of this one ..

what happens when our electric goes off it’s not our fault we could top up £1000 it wouldn’t register as the meter and the smart monitor isn’t working so stressed about this

Do you mean pre payment metre?

Yes they wouldn’t let us switch to credit when we moved in here so basically our electric will go off despite us topping up £50 the smart meter and monitor are broken

Keep hassling your supplier but it would also be worth a call to your MP, they will at least know how to work the system and point you in the right direction for help.

I cant help with the smart meter but do you have any close neighbours? I know in this situation I'd be happy to run an extension lead through to my neighbours if they needed, especially if they offered to pay, is it worth going and asking just in case?

Is there a number for the priority register department?

ExtraOnion · 30/08/2022 12:15

Have you Tweeted them, I often find that the Social Media team are a lot more responsive, especially with the situation you described

Keep phoning ,we are also priority customers as I also have a disabled child, I have always found British gas to be quite helpful .

Who wouldn’t let you change to a credit meter? Even if you have an existing debt that you are paying off, a prepayment meter is unsuitable for you with a child with a disability, you need to have it replaced.

It wont go off.

im with SP and my old prepayment meter broke. Key wouldn’t load, blank screen. Took 9 week to get a smart meter fitted. Went online and through june and july no electricity was used according to my account, it was blank. It never went off.

my rented accommodation’s meter is also broken and my previous tenant called to complain and so have i. According to SP the postcode isn’t smart ready and I cannot get a smart meter. The electric wont go off (assured by SP) but again i cannot top up.

the know its an issue but they don’t fix old meters and i cant get a smart one . Advisor was out of advice for me.
