Ils hol

I know I will get slated but just want a moan. Ils have a seaside cottage which they rent out. They go 6-8 times a year themselves, they invite sil and her family to go with them probably 4-5 times a year. They never invite us. We get a week for ourselves and sil gets a week. As sil children are under 5 she goes September. I work in a school so hols only, first couple of years we went in summer hols. But then ils said out of season only. So we either go oct or feb half term for a week. Found out today ils, sil and her family went up yesterday for a week , it's possible it was free but I find it hard to believe it was empty aug bank hol. So seems more likely ils booked it and invite sil. Feel really annoyed unfairly treated.

I feel for you op
My old bought a huge static caravan.. They took sil's dc every single week end for years. They offered it to me once. When dh was working.
He dropped us off one Friday night and picked us up the Sunday. Never offered us again. Never took our dc.
Sold caravan and started taking sil's dc abroad. Ours never even had a sleepover at their house.. Or even a tea invite.
It's stings.
But in their dotage it will be sil they call on. No holiday home is worth any strings.

*my ils!

Keyansier · 28/08/2022 21:45

But they do invite you... you said that they give you a week and they give her a week. Just because it's an inconvenient time for you doesn't mean they're being horrible and not letting you stay there. YABVU.

It's funny I was thinking same. Ils do loads with sil dc and have them loads to give sil and bil a break. Yet I can imagine when the time comes that ils need help sil and bil will be all about sharing the care. Dh can do as he likes but I won't be doing a lot.

They give us each a week then take sil and bil an extra 4 times. We were told not in the summer then they took sil and family in the summer! We could have gone but not invited.

Yes we have 2 and sil has 2. Obviously sil is their daughter , there's lots of prioritising sil and her family. Weirdly dh says it doesn't bother him. (Think he's use to it) it annoys me on dh and dc behalf.

If it was my parents doing this I'd be annoyed. Is your spouse annoyed?

I wouldn't care if my inlaws did it to me though.

willithappen · 28/08/2022 22:05

Have you posted about this before? I swear I have read the exact same post a couple of months back

Are you not just glad to get a free holiday? Does it matter what happens between your PIL and their daughter?

abovedecknotbelow · 28/08/2022 22:25

It's not their doubt you work in a school, school holiday rentals probably find it. SIL will be in the same boat when hers start school.

Mosso · 28/08/2022 22:32

I've read this before. They prefer SiL which is shit but it's their cottage.

Yeah I did moan back I March/April when they said we couldn't go this summer as sil goes several times a year and we do one week. That's why I'm annoyed because they told us we couldn't go. Then took sil and her family.

My in-laws had a holiday house by the sea in Wales. Very much the same. MIL s favourite two children seemed to go whenever they wanted and as often as they wanted. dH and his other unfavoured sibling would be told MIL so wanted us to go but was then very difficult about fixing dates then would keep changing them. Not really possible when we had to stick to school hols and annual leave. We went twice and then didn't bother. It was more trouble than it was worth. MIL than told all and sundry how ungrateful we were not taking up her lovely free holidays!
