To think Cleaners are trying to extract money

We were moving house. We rent. We decided it would be worth our money to get the house we were leaving professionally cleaned, as it was spotless when we moved in.
Did a bit of cleaning ourselves before we left. Like wash shower curtains, ensure mould was dealt with etc.

Booked up a cleaning company to come and clean the house, 3 months ahead of schedule. We booked it for the day before we had to give the keys back.

When I got quotes, I told them how many bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms, big cupboards. I even gave them the square meterage. I told them the property was furnished. Got several quotes, all around the same mark. (This wasn't cheapest)

Quoted £450 for a deep clean of the average size 4 bed house. Fine, if thats what it is.

On the day of the clean, I got a call from an irate manager at the cleaning company, who demanded we pay £555 instead. This is because there was 'more furniture than expected' and it was a 'larger than average 4 bed'. (No it isn't- and we provided sq meterage for the quote).

So we were left with the cleaners saying they would leave unless we paid an additional £100 to them. They knew we were handing the keys back the next day and so quite literally had no choice but to pay up.

AIBU to think they were trying to pull a fast one?

It sounds like they were trying to con you given you gave the the sq measurements and were honest with the size of the property. Make sure you leave a factual review on Google, Facebook and anywhere else you can, including the fact that they refused to leave and you felt bullied into paying more than they quoted.

That's a crazy price! How many man hours was the work? 20-25 hours? I wouldn't pay more than the original quote, and I'd make it clear to them in writing you were under duress to pay the additonal £100. Did they quote in writing?

It’s pretty common for end of lease cleans. They know you need it done so try and charge extra knowing you don’t have a choice. It’s best to get them to come round and quote first, but that’s near impossible where we are and I must see at least 2/3 facebook weekly posts of people being let down by cleaners not turning up or wanting more money. For that sort of money, I really would inspect their cleaning and make sure it’s up to a high standard, if not I would deduct money due to this.
