Just that really, if you were the prime minister what would you do to help fix the country and the cost of living crisis.

Push the big Red Nuke button.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/08/2022 20:00

What Keir has proposed. And I loathe the man. But he’s right on this.

WeAreAllLionesses · 28/08/2022 20:01

Is that you Liz?

meow1989 · 28/08/2022 20:02

Higher taxes on the highest earners as a starter for 10 that would make a pretty decent impact all round.

Flutterbybudget · 28/08/2022 20:03

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Nellodee · 28/08/2022 20:04

Renationalise the utilities. Stop subsidising fossil fuel.

Skinnermarink · 28/08/2022 20:05

Sort childcare out properly. Pay nursery workers properly. Stop rinsing parents that don’t have another option but to use it so they can work. Maybe nationalise it in some way, so the standard and pricing is similar across the whole board.

Is that you Liz?

Definitely 😂

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/08/2022 20:06

Run away!

Skinnermarink · 28/08/2022 20:07

Oh sorry, I answered in a more general sense. THIS mess, well, probably comes down to taxing the feck out of people that can absorb it, big tax on second homes, bigger tax on third homes, etc.

Lurkerlot · 28/08/2022 20:08

Something like this ->

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/08/2022 20:14

Tax the very wealthy to ensure the poorest have enough to survive.
Cap the maximum salary to 10x your lowest paid worker so if your cleaner earns £10 an hour the ceo is capped at £100.

Scrap the daily charge on energy.

HoppingKangaroo · 28/08/2022 20:14

Is that you Liz? I doubt she would take advice from the general public and also doubt she will do much to help the general public with the cost of living

What @meow1989 said and I'd give those British companies who are producers of energy, as well as suppliers, the option of massively cutting their dividends to shareholders, or be privatised at no cost. I'd also give grants to people willing to insulate, get ground source heating or solar panels. I'd also increase the amount these people get by selling back to the grid.

What I wouldn't do is sit on my fat arse and wait for someone else to take charge whilst also claiming a salary for "running the country".

Charley50 · 28/08/2022 20:15

Big tax on wealthy individuals. Wealth inequality has gone too far. The rich should bear this.
Privatise energy industry.

Firty · 28/08/2022 20:21

Lower the energy price cap and fund it by increasing national borrowing.

Require all MPs to have at least two years management experience, and make it a law that no one can stand (or remain) as MP if they’ve previously been sacked for dishonesty, found guilty of any offence, chosen to pay taxes other than in UK, or abused expenses rules.

Be nicer to our European allies. We’re gonna need them when America implodes.

Invest more in nuclear energy and better subsidise farming. We need to be more self-sufficient.

HeddaGarbled · 28/08/2022 20:22

Welcome immigrants into our workforce. Forget about this cutting taxes nonsense.

@L1ttledrummergirl

That doesn’t make sense.

Highly qualifier people would just leave the country to find places they were remunerated for their skills.

BigYellowElephant · 28/08/2022 20:24

Renationalise all of the utilities, rail etc redistribute wealth and absolutely pump money into the NHS as a matter of urgency. Put Priti Patel on a dinghy and push her out to sea, preferably one with sharks in

Lex345 · 28/08/2022 20:25

As everyone has said already, heavy tax lean on the very wealthy and billion pound turnover companies.

Energy-Financially vulnerable tariff plus fixed tariff lower than cap up to certain %age of usage.

NHS and Social care-funding and better co working. Lots of elderly hospital admissions from social care could be avoided with better satellite services like early sepsis intervention and community IVs for example.

Banish BoJo and JRM to a museum.

And I am sorry to say it and fully expect my arse handed to me, but I would do everything I could to reverse Brexit.

Firty · 28/08/2022 20:26

I’d also look very closely at how public money is being spent. Fire the most dodgy policemen. Stop sending refugees to Rwanda. Cut back on NHS non-essential spending (no more taxpayer-funded sex changes, or hormone treatments for men who dislike their beards). Slash civil sevice to essential roles only. Increase teacher pay and cut back teacher paperwork, they’re some of the most vital keyworkers and are quitting in droves, they’ll be expensive to replace.

Firty · 28/08/2022 20:26

And, feck it, confiscate the assets of Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees Mog and the other incompetents who got us into this mess.

lking679 · 28/08/2022 20:29

Those who have enjoyed ridiculous profits I would windfall tax. Then I would limit their profits to something suitable for shareholders based on past performance but no more.
Then I’d model and look at ways to get fuel bills down and give help to those who need it. But that is a lot. I am on more than £45k and to be honest although we’ve taken the hits so far I don’t think January price rise is doable for us without help, not with mortgage and childcare.

justfiveminutes · 28/08/2022 20:29

Renationalise everything. Competition was supposed to make things better but hasn't.

YKND · 28/08/2022 20:29

Nationalise a fair few things.
Stop the non-dom nonsense.
Invade Jersey, Guernsey, IoM and the Cayman Islands. Well they are ours already. But take control to stop them being parasites on the world economy.
