Is it worth selling on ebay at the moment?

I recently sold a sealed playmobil toy on ebay. Due to a delay with hermes it was 1 day later than ebay said it would arrive. The buyer has asked for a full refund because it was 1 day late. I said they can return item (I would have to pay for postage) and then they get a refund when item is returned. They seem to think they are entitled to a refund and to keep item as day late. Meaning I would have lost item and money for posting item as well.

Is it worth selling more items on ebay or could I end up getting scammed by buyers as ebay seems to side massively in favour of the buyer? With the cost of living going up will there be more chancers or people trying to get refund and keep item etc?
Anyone have any experience of selling on ebay in that past few months? Thanks

I've been doing ok but I'm just selling old baby clothes and pretty cheaply.

Vinted is better. Tell eBay you want the item returned. This person is scamming you and if you tell eBay you will refund the item on return they will support you

Yes I'd definitely go through all the eBay channels

They are chances. Delivery a day later than expected is not grounds for a refund and what planet are they on thinking they can have a full refund and keep the item!

This is not correct. They are entitled to a refund if they return the item to you and you receive it in the same condition you sent it. Check that...there are a lot of scammers that will plunder the bits they want - send the item back and get a refund.
You may have to pay postage but I would suck that up. Call their bluff. No return...no refund.

declutteringmymind · 30/08/2022 19:56

I always call people's bluff on those circs.

They're just blagging money off. Don't give it. If you're feeling generous just say I'll refund you the cost of returning it to me but that's as far as I go. Otherwise return it pronto.

Ffs my order from next was 2 days “late” I wasn’t ringing up demanding I get the order for free! What planet are these people on!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 30/08/2022 19:58

I'm 2 weeks into waiting for a parcel from Hermes after buying off Ebay, this is the fifth time in a few months. Waiting a day is chancing it.

Tbh I ordered somethinf for next day delivery from Next and it was 2 days late so too late for the event. I complained, got a refund and a £10 voucher.

Don’t you dare refund them, OP! Scammy bastards.

I sell a bit on eBay. I list (and relist) every second week, as eBay gives you 80% off selling fees on up to 100 items.

I’ve never been scammed. I do send everything second class signed for.

Cupofteainthemorning · 30/08/2022 20:40

I sold some clothes recently. I made a grand total profit of 83p 😂. Postage costs was higher than I expected so its my own fault. But really wasn't worth the effort listing them, packaging and posting!

zeromango · 30/08/2022 21:15

I used to sell a lot on eBay but god, the fees from PayPal eBay and postage made it completely pointless! I hardly made anything. I've recently sold about £60 worth off stuff on Vinted with no bother I keep all the money and the buyer pays for the postage label so I don't have to spend a fortune with Royal Mail. I'd definitely give it a try OP Smile

This!

They aren’t entitled to a refund unless they return the item - end of. I wouldn’t accept a return because the reason is suspicious- they maybe want to take bits out etc. You aren’t a trade seller so you aren’t obliged to offer a refund and certainly not if they don’t return it. I wouldn’t do anything but politely decline and say delivery is an estimate therefore beyond your control & you don’t accept returns as items are sole as seen in the condition. I sold for years and years on eBay, hundreds of items and rarely had any issues.. always used PayPal and I’ve never had a problem there either. PayPal can be very good if you ring up - you could call and say you don’t know what to do because this person wants money but won’t return and you don’t want the item back etc and see what they advise.
