Got married and blended 2 families.

Sold a house.

Bought a house.

Remortgaged and let a house.

Had 3 consecutive miscarriages.

Am currently pregnant.

And finally, after a very protracted and complex business deal we've made a very significant and life changing sum of money.

If I go back 10 years then I've:

Given birth to 2 children.
Painfully lost a loved one.
Rented out a property.
Moved cities.
Bought a property.
Discovered an affair after an almost 20 year marriage and 3 children.
Been left destitute with a 1, 3 and 7 year old when Ex-H walked out and drained all of our accounts of money.
Went to Uni, did a Law degree and graduated with a 1st.
Qualified in law.
Got divorced.
Raised my 3 DC's single handedly with no support or contact from their Dad.
Sold a business.
Met my now DH.

I'm fascinated to read what others have experienced in the last 12 months and even the last decade.

In the last year I have also:

Got married and blended two families; became a stepmother 'officially'.

I am also pregnant. (So sorry to hear about your miscarriages and wishing you all the best.)

In the last decade:

Given birth to my daughter (son is 11).

Had a near-death experience.

Been widowed.

Been made redundant.

Found a wonderful new job.

Met my now DH.

Got diagnosed with ADHD (which has been a game changer).

Wow, that is some decade and last year you've had.

I'm so sorry you lost your DH but also so very happy for the life you're living now.

I hope you have joy upon joy in your life and thank you, miscarriages are tough but I believe what isn't meant for me will pass me by.

Wishing you a very healthy pregnancy =)

I’ve had quite a quiet decade in comparison

given birth once
one miscarriage
started one business
grown another business from part time sole trader to employing four people full time
lost my last grandparent (which made me the oldest person in my entire family aged 31 because my parents died years ago)
moved house
rented out a house
fully renovated two houses (think right back to bricks only in some cases not even that, new joists new foundations new roofs new windows full rewires and in one case a loft conversion etc)
moved two members of my DH’s family into residential care
learned passable French and spent three months in france
two marathons after starting off on couch to 5k struggling with 60 second runs
kids have had four operations between them, only one serious thankfully

and actually I still think the decade before that was much busier and harder

A year ago, almost to the day, I published my first book, followed by a second in February.

This is immense! I love how you call it 'quiet' =)

Sorry for your losses and just wow on your achievements and facing all of your challenges at the same time.

I think seeing your last decade written down is quite eye opening and of course relative to the writer.

Last year - nothing much Blush
Gained a teenager (DS1 turned 13)
Had COVID.
Visited UK for the first time in 3 years.
Wrote a blog consistently every week for 12 weeks and then gave up as I realised it wasn't publishing because they charge for that now Hmm

Last ten years
Moved to Germany
Got married
Failed driving test 4x, gave up Sad
Diagnosed with ADHD
Had 2 miscarriages, long wait, genetic testing, 2 healthy DCs
Got a job in German (amazing)
Lost the job due to the pandemic/pregnancy

In the next year, hoping to get another job and ADHD medication.

mrsDracoMalfoy · 28/08/2022 17:26

In the last 6 years I've

Had 2 miscarriages
Gave birth
Got married during the pandemic
Got a job
Lost my best friend of 10 plus years (not dead just no longer friends)
Gained confidence in doing the last and learnt a lot about my self and aren't as anxious

Theantsgomarchingtwo · 28/08/2022 17:48

In the last year I have (first 9 happened within weeks of each other):

Nursed my mum in ill health
My mum died
I got made redundant followed by my husband.
I fell pregnant
Informed that the landlord wanted to sell their property
I had a termination
Went for a job interview the next day, was a bit of a mess so didn't expect to be offered the job.
Started a new job along with dh.
Cleared mums flat.
Landlord changed their mind. We sold everything we had and saved every penny we got.
We pulled together a deposit with a little help from mum.
We bought our first home with kids in tow.
Cried a lot

In the past ten years I have:

  • graduated from university.
  • got engaged and married.
  • moved out and in with dh.
  • extended my family through step siblings
  • had five miscarriages and 3 live births.
  • had a mental health lapse.
  • had a very poorly baby who against all odds is still here.
  • made new friends and lost ties with old ones.

Next ten years I hope is more gentle and I pray that the next year isn't as brutal as the last.

Costacoffeeplease · 28/08/2022 18:36
