So, I have just enrolled Onto an access course for September for nursing, however, the more I think about it, it makes more sense to start it next year instead. I would have to quit my job as we can’t afford for DS to be in nursery 5 days a week. My son starts school next September so I could work and do the course and not be financially dependant on my DH which I really do not want to do. Im just really worried I am getting too old and want to get it done, I am 33 next year 😭

You are not too old ! We like ‘mature’ students .

Lex345 · 28/08/2022 08:39

Definitely not too old. We had nursing students in their 50s on our course.

Def do it next year. See how your son gets on in his first year at school. If you want to feel you're doing something, could you pick up some of the books & get a bit ahead of yourself? Good luck! It's never too late.

It does make more sense to start next year though doesn’t it? I feel bad as I have already enrolled. I really want to do it but I am being realistic.

In the grand scheme of things, one year is nothing. Delay it if that's the nest decision, but think about whether you are looking for excuses not to do it.

RobynGo · 28/08/2022 08:41

I am not looking for excuses I REALLY want to do it. I just can’t afford to put DS in nursery 5 days, next year he will be at school so no fees at all and can work and do the course.

My MIL didn't do her nursing qualifications until she was in her early 40s.

She's now a band 6 and has a really interesting job out in the community in her early 60s.

You are not too old!

Sounds sensible

KangarooKenny · 28/08/2022 08:42

There are plenty of people who put it off for a year, circumstances change like a pregnancy. Really don’t worry about it.
