To suggest that some HH really do rely on Carers Allowance and need some targeted energy/col help too

From 1st of Sept autistic ds will be returning to post-16 education to complete his L3 Btec. Great, really great, too many covid disruptions to his routinized approach meant he had to take a year off.

He'll be 21 in the Autumn and just like the previous year we've no entitlement to any child-based benefits. He has been getting the UC under-25 payment which he now will no longer receive. His course is treated as post-16 so no Loans, Grants towards living costs at all.

I know that. I'm self-employed and did spend a lot of time applying for jobs over the last year but I'm 60 and seems I've not quite got the edge anymore. Only last year did my self-employed earnings actually go down so it's a bit borderline if I earn a nett income equal to £130pw that is the margin for Carers Alloance.

But I know that too. The only thing I don't know is if people like me, a minority group, will even be recognized as also requiring some assistance with the impending COL/Energy Costs.

Carers Allowance plus Earnings comes in at less than £200pw.

Whilst I appreciate that even HH on £45K will need help - something needs to be done for those that receive Carers Allowance who are also Head of HH.

I think maybe an Interim Payment of £250 to those in receipt of Carers Allowance by 1st Oct would be a start - then maybe means test the other payments (to equal the UC payments) to ensure that the Carers Energy Payments go to those that don't treat it as a bit of 'extra' whilst someone else in the HH earns good money.
