Strange feeling!!

So I've followed the threads before about strange feelings when visiting places..

Omg I experienced it today!

With my youngest son explored an English heritage site (Tynemouth priory) and the back has an old big gun (like a modern cannon) as it was an army base for a bit.

Well the bit around the gun I felt dizzy, oppressed, terrified that "something" didn't want us there...or wanted DS there but not me! It was horrible! I have never felt such fear over seemingly nothing before! It was so surreal!

Didn't feel it all when exploring the priory ruins or looking at the gravestones etc!

So feel free to share your similar experiences! (And if anyone has felt that same at tynemouth priory I'd love to hear!).

Yeah I’ve had that, exactly the feeling you describe which is funny - as if something didn’t want me there. A very old estate ruin and church. The lost overwhelming feeling of a place saying ‘go.’ And I’m not one for any supernatural stuff.

And what would that "something" be exactly?

Without speaking for OP, some people think ghosts, spirits, energy of a place or object etc. Sometimes it's just an overwhelming feeling of emotion towards it, like how people feel at auschwitz

KnickerlessParsons · 28/08/2022 09:47

Ah! "Spirits". Yep, that's what it was, definitely.

Maybe places which have a big story or historical purpose , with unusual large signifiers of that (a cannon, a large jail etc) trigger feelings of dread in people?

I mean…. Everyone likes a bit of woo in here but sometimes the obvious boring answer is the answer?

Oh I'm sure it is but it was such a strange feeling I've never experienced before!

@KnickerlessParsons You are not obliged to post you know. This is a forum to share anecdotes.

Ha I said "something" because I couldn't explain it! Was just a very weird and uncomfortable experience!

I'm all for a bit of woo, but could it have just been the fact it was a gun? I went to the Yorkshire Air Musuem and they had a massive bomb there, I felt the same, dizzy and horrible, but I think it was just the thought that it was something designed to destroy and kill.

My dgm's house when she first moved in. Really old house in a tiny village.. Stephen King book place!!
Evil is the only explanation.. The local vicar came in and blessed it. Was a bit better... Always felt 'watched'..
When she died it was sold as none of us wanted it!

At Chillingham Castle there was one room at the top and as soon as we went up there I got this awful feeling that something terrible would happen to us if we didn't get out. We went onto the balcony and I felt fine out there but as soon as we went back inside the feeling returned. I later found out that was the room where a group of children were locked in, forced to watch their parents burn in the courtyard below and then chased round and hacked to death with an axe. I don't necessarily think there were spirits in the room but maybe a sort of lingering energy?
