To think spoons should be square shaped?!!?

I can't stop thinking about it, why aren't spoons square shaped? Forks are rectangular so surely it would make sense for spoons to be square shaped? Maybe it wouldn't work for big spoons but bigger ones could rectangular like forks?

Sorry for the weird post, I'm on maternity leave and haven't left the house due to an unwell baby.

I’m weird about spoons. They need to be small and a nice shape. I find soup spoons awful. And I don’t own any actual tablespoons. I will give other people dessert spoons but I’ll use a teaspoon myself.

I have a cutlery set where the spoons are a rounded edge rectangle, and they’re brilliant. The teaspoons fit into all those little spice jars and the large spoons are lovely to use.

They have to be curved to scoop up the inside of a curved bowl. I know you can get square bowls now (a total abomination if you ask me) but traditionally bowls and dishes would be curved

I think you’re right. But there is also a space for curved spoons. Both!!

To be fair if spoons were less comfortable in my mouth I’d probably be about two stone lighter, so that might not be a bad thing.

I agree with the points stated (not comfortable, need to be curved to match bowls), and I also wonder if if might have been easier to make spoons curved, originally, and it's just continued from there. If I were carving a spoon from wood, I think curved would be easier than square.

...Or perhaps not. 😁

If you carved a square spoon from wood, eventually the corners would wear down until it was spoon shaped.
