Hi all,

So I’m meeting my friends new baby girl on Monday. For the baby shower I was unwell the night before so I couldn’t make it. However I had a lovely present bought so when I saw her next I gave it to her . Didn’t wait till baby was born as she would have been given the gift at the shower. I bought a really good present if I do say so myself and spent a lot of money.

AIBU to not bring another gift tomorrow when I meet baby? Another things is I got her a mom to be card for the shower, so should I bring a welcome baby card tomorrow? Or if I bring that should
I have another gift? No problem getting another if it’s the done thing. Unsure of etiquette here as she’s my first close friend to have a baby! Thanks

I'd get a congratulations/new baby card and maybe a small treat just for your friend as you've already got something for the baby.

Annieisalright · 27/08/2022 21:24

If she is a close friend you should bring a little something for mum

Baby shower gifts tend to be for the baby and then you typically get a gift for the parents when the baby is born and a card

maybein2022 · 27/08/2022 21:41

I would take a card and a little treat for your friend.

Lis1992 · 27/08/2022 22:06

Sorry I should add- I also bought my friend gifts with the baby shower gift. 😊

A few homecooked meals and a box of nibbles/chocolates, thats what I would take.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 27/08/2022 22:14

Card and a box of cakes to share!

Greybutterfly · 27/08/2022 22:21

Of course you get a card .. you don’t need to bring much but it’s bad taste to turn up empty handed. Offer to pick up lunch on route

rainbowzebra05 · 27/08/2022 22:26

Depending on what time you're going, my favourite postnatal visit was from the friend who'd stopped off to grab sandwiches on their way over! A small gift for the parents really does only have to be small to mean something, I'd probably go similar with something edible and a card personally

EllieRosesMammy · 27/08/2022 22:26

You don't have to bring anything but I personally would take a congrats card and maybe some flowers or chocolate 😁

You still need to bring a little something for a visit

It's basic manners

chillipenguin · 27/08/2022 22:28

I would grab some chocolates for mum tbh

Lis1992 · 27/08/2022 22:29

@Annieisalright obviously I’m bringing something for the tea and cake we are having. I specifically was asking about another baby gift!

Ah you're good then, make sure you set up the tea and cake and she can sit there holding her baby and not doing anything.

This is the only present I actually remember 10 years later.

Squashedraddish · 27/08/2022 22:31

I loved it when people brought round treats so when I had visitors I always had something to give them and didn’t need to worry about nipping to the shop

Lis1992 · 27/08/2022 22:33

@chillipenguin yeah she won’t have to do anything don’t worry. She actually told us her mom is coming and hosting /preparing tea and cake. Which is lovely. It’s just me and a few of the other friends and the two sisters of my friend who had the baby

I hated flowers as an opposite comment. Last thing I needed was something else to keep alive and have to clean up after when they died. Which for me is a shamefully short amount of time Blush

Same. I was not in any state of mind to be dealing with flowers.
